Situation in The North Pacific

Post by Manson »

This piece excellently covers the Pixiedance scandal and is completely unbiased. Even Pixiedance herself commented and agreed with this statement! Taken from here.
After a little over 2 months of delegacy, the person behind the delegate of The North Pacific (TNP), Pixiedance, is no longer controlling her own nation. She has handed control over to an unknown source, which, if rumors are true, is the player behind Pierconium/Moldavi/Gracius Maximus and a member of the PRP (formerly the NPO), the Meritocracy, and TNP. The reasons behind this are not clear at this time, only the immediate consequences. The new delegate of TNP has banned the closest competitor to Pixiedance’s endorsement count, the defender that became delegate briefly after the liberation on 7/28/04. The nation Better Times (also known as Free4All) is the sole nation on The North Pacific ban list at this time.

While the exact reasons for the handing over of her nation to another are unknown, some possible reasons have been suggested. Over the course of the last month, TNP has seen tremendous change. They have resigned from the ADN and a large number of the cabinet and their deputies have resigned due to personal issues (Agnost, Ceaser, Drkwych) or in protest at events in TNP (Flemingovia, Monte Ozarka, Thess). In addition to a tremendous loss of personnel, there have been accusations, condemnations, and suggestions for trials in multiple cases, stemming from misconduct to libel.

Pixiedance’s delegacy was calm and peaceful until early in December, when several events lead to the posting of a message to the Director of the ADN in The North Pacific forums that detailed plans for a meeting between ADN and TNP officials to discuss the precipitating events and possible resolutions. It suggested the meeting would be held on the TNP forums and visible only to the 6 participants. The motion was accepted by officials of both sides, however many nations in both the ADN and TNP suggested that the meeting be visible to everyone, and some suggested others should be allowed to comment and add their own input. Pixiedance considered those requests, but in the end she denied them in favor of secret talks, due to several reasons.

However, a day after that, Pixiedance rescinded the offer of talks due, in part, to a resolution submitted to the ADN Council that declared any agreements reached as illegal, objected to them being held and secret, and required a full report to the Council by the Director. While Pixiedance cited this as a reason for not continuing, many in the ADN noted that the resolution was highly unlikely to pass, and should not be looked on as extremely important. She then posted a full account ( of the problems between TNP and the ADN.

Two days later a cabinet meeting was held, and a statement was voted on and posted in the TNP World Factbook for all nations to see. However, the full transcript of the meeting (particularly the portion discussing the ADN) was withheld after a vote of the Cabinet. Subsequently, a ruling was requested on the legality of withholding the transcript.

Approximately 1 day later (just before Christmas), the Minister of External Affairs, Wilkshire, posted this on the TNP forums, “After due consideration, I believe that as Minister of External Affairs it falls within my remit to manage our external alliances. As such I request our immediate resignation from ADN. I request our Rep. to post repudiation of our membership in the appropriate manner to ADN.” At the time, the Representative to the ADN for TNP was Pixiedance, and she withdrew The North Pacific from the ADN. It should be noted that withdrawals do not go into effect until 14 days after they are initiated, therefore The North Pacific was still in the ADN until January 7th.

Objections were quickly raised to the withdrawal, especially in light of the statement previously agreed upon that declared, “enable bona fide TNP citizens to participate in a debate and vote on our continued membership of ADN. We direct that such a vote be held under Article II Section 1 of our constitution.” The Minister of Justice, Agnost, was asked to make a ruling on the legality of the withdrawal. Agnost made a ruling, it was appealed by Pixiedance, and Agnost then responded to that appeal. However, Pixiedance still disagreed with the ruling and Agnost’s authority to make such a ruling, therefore, the suggestions laid out by Agnost were not followed. The North Pacific repudiation of ADN membership stayed in effect. At that point, there were approximately 9 days left until The North Pacific was officially withdrawn from the ADN.

During this, a vote was held among members of the cabinet on whether to release the full transcript of the Cabinet meeting 12/22, as requested earlier. The vote was in favor, and the transcript was released. Subsequent to that release, another Cabinet meeting was held. However, the ADN situation was not discussed at that meeting (29th), nor at the one following (4th). On the 4th, it was decided by the Cabinet to grant Thel D’Ran admin status, as the other admin had announced his retirement.

Leading up to the official day of TNP withdrawal from the ADN, January 7th, 4 members of the cabinet resigned their positions and left The North Pacific. Flemingovia (Minister of Immigration and Internal Affairs) left due to the changes in TNP on January 2nd; Agnost (Minister of Justice) left on January 3rd due to real-life time constraints. Then, on January 6th, 2 Ministers left, Thess (Minister of Communications) and Monte Ozarka (Minister of Defense).

In addition to the ADN situation and withdrawal of members, the long absent root admin of The North Pacific Forum returned from a several month absence, where his first actions were to remove all other admins and mods from control of The North Pacific’s forum and to post his assessment of the happenings on The North Pacific forums. In doing so, he raised a controversy about the legality of his actions. In response to that, the Delegate and the majority of remaining ministers created and declared a new official TNP forum, which is located here. However, within 48 hours, Pixiedance had handed control of her nation over to an unknown player. He or she proceeded to declare martial law in TNP and eject the closest competitor, Better Times, from the region.

UPDATE: The delegate has confirmed that he is Pierconium/Moldavi and posted an announcement. Better Times has been removed from the ban list and is currently in The North Pacific.

The average life expectancy of a Manson deputy after their appointment is four days. Good luck.
