[Discussion] Culture Points and Ranks

Post by Deadeye Jack »

Hey everyone.

So as I said in my campaign I think it would be a good idea to take a page out of TRT and come up with a Points/Rank system for Cultural participation. I think it would be a good way to incentivize and recognize people being active in the planning, hosting and participation stages of our activities. TRT's points system works as such:

1 Point for a Story Tip (told to the Editor-in-Chief)
2 Points for Editing an Article
5 Points for Writing an Article
25 Points for an Award

Now obviously there are not the same exact steps for running a paper versus running an activity but my thinking was to have a points system like:

1 Point for participation in an activity
2 Points for proposing a new idea in the event planning area (fleshed out)
5 points for hosting an activity

I'm not sure about the creation of awards for service to be given by the Culture Officer. However I do think we should have some ranks. TRT's are based off of actual newspaper job titles and we don't have such a benefit when trying to adapt the idea here. However I think we could have things like "Cultural Icon" or "Cultural Legend" as ranks somewhere.

Anyway with that we can open up the discussion. Let me know what you think of this. If people think it's a bad idea we can scrap it, but I wanted to have this discussion anyway. Here are some guiding questions of some of the most important parts to work out:

1. Do you agree with the proposed points? What actions should earn points and what should they be worth?
2. What are your thoughts on rank titles? Do you have any suggestions?
3. Is it feasible to factor in past activities if we go live with this system?

1. I honestly don't see the point in this. Sorry, but I just don't.
2. If I did, I would discourage against ranks. They're more of a job thing and I think TRT is the only thing that has successfully utilized them.
3. No. Start fresh.

The point is what I assume is the same concept of TRT points. Get people to participate by offering automatic merit based recognition for things. Maybe it would encourage people to take part more in the process maybe it wouldn't. I do think we need more people to do so and this was just one idea I had to give some incentive. I thought TRT was something to look towards and thought that the system was somewhat adaptable.

Honestly, I feel like badges and small awards would work better for Culture.

Ok so let's say we decide to go this direction. What actions should people get badges/awards for? Hosting a few events?
