Kandarin retires

By this time, most people will already be aware that Kandarin has retired. His decision was announced here on the NationStates forums, and has been much discussed. There's little that we can add to it, other than to say that we wish him the best in RL, and hope that one day he will return.

Naivetry takes over Kandarin's nation

The most controversial aspect of Kandarin's retirement was his transferring of his nation to Naivetry of Equilism, who therefore took the delegacy of The Rejected Realms. This led to heated discussion amongst members of TRR, but eventually we've decided that Naivetry will continue to hold the delegacy for the time being, until a long-term decision is made on the future of the delegate position in TRR.

The Rejected Realms Army re-starts

The renewed interest in TRR following Kandarin's retirement has led to the reformation of the Rejected Realms Army, which is back in operation and defending regions around NationStates.

TRR Foreign Affairs Department created

As you can tell from this update (and from me pestering you about embassies), The Rejected Realms now has a Foreign Affairs Department. This means that we'll be sweeping aside the cobwebs in our embassies, and filling them up with updates like this.

Hunt for 'missing alliances' begins

After discovering a long-lost alliance with Lazarus, TRR's Foreign Affairs Department is now desperately hunting for other alliances that the region has signed. If you think we once signed over half our sovereign territories to you, in return for a couple of beers and a pack of cigarettes - well you're probably right - so let us know!

WA Voting Policy

After a discussion on the voting policy of our new delegate, Naivetry is now consulting with TRR members before voting on each WA resolution. In future, we may include a record of how we've voted on resolutions in our updates. The debate on our voting policy led to questions about TRR citizenship - something that will likely have to be addressed in the near future.

Future plans

So far, we've decided not to rush into any big decisions. This means we won't be setting up a massive constitution with loads of elected positions, only to find we can't fill them. However, TRR will still be moving forward, and Naivetry has suggested that we begin telegramming all new TRR nations inviting them to join the forums. Laws are still a way off, but we may get there eventually.

Other stuff

• The Rejected Realms is enjoying a healthy population of over 1,100 nations, thanks to Chief Recruiter JAL (aka Durkadurkiranistan II).
• A "So you've been ejected..." thread was set up on the NS forums for nations who find themselves unexpectedly resident in The Rejected Realms. This may be brought onto TRR's forums at some point in the future.
• TRR has seen several new members in recent weeks, including Pan-Stron-Atreus, Blackwater Rifts and Biblical Importance.
• TRR's famed Rooftop Poolrom has been cleaned, the bottles and bodies removed, and is now open for business!

That's all for this week, and if you're lucky, another update will be on its way soon.

Zetaboarded!

The Rejected Realms took the decision to convert its forums from |invisionfree| to Zetaboards recently. The old forum urls still work, and all the content (posts, threads, user accounts, messages etc.) are still there - the forum just uses better software. Following the conversion, we've installed a new forum theme so that TRR's forums no longer look like they were designed in 1995.

New admin slave

With the retirement of Kandarin, The Rejected Realms had found its forum short of admins. CrazyGirl therefore decided to appoint Sedge as a new administrator, to do all the work for her. This has included uploading the aforementioned forum theme, and adding various scripts to improve the useability of the forum. Rumours that he decorated her private office pink are unverified.

IRC

We finally have our own IRC channel - #TRR on irc.esper.net - and those without a dedicated IRC client can access the channel via the TRR's forums by going to this page: http://s8.zetaboards.com/The_RR_and_RRA/pages/irc/

Two Rivers Proposal

The Rejected Realms is edging slowly closer towards a system of semi-democratic delegate elections. Discussion on the "Two Rivers Proposal" can be found here, and the plan is likely to be implemented in the coming days. It envisages a one-off system for electing a delegate (with no specified term limit), with the elections run by a "Council of Three" consisting of CrazyGirl, Thought Transference and Biblical Importance. It is hoped that after a delegate election is concluded, we can begin discussions on setting up a formal set of laws as well as a goverment.

Anur-Sanur situation

The Rejected Realms has recently gained a new member by the name of Anur-Sanur, who was ejected from The East Pacific. After a brief period on the forum, he seems to have developed a dislike of CrazyGirl and Naivetry, and is campaigning to become delegate.

Mother knows best

Prominent TRR personality CrazyGirl posted a complaint on the NS forum about her nation being a "Father Knows Best" state, claiming that in fact, "Mother knows best". NationStates admin [violet] then changed the game code so that any nation previously in the "Father Knows Best State" category, with a nation pre-title of "Queendom" or "Matriarchy" becomes a "Mother Knows Best State".

Love is in the air?

A (mildly) edited transcript from #TRR reads:
* @CrazyGirl sighs
* @Wopruthien is worried
<@CrazyGirl> About?
<@Wopruthien> you just told me you loved me....
Unfortunately, Wopruthien's hopes were dashed just seconds later:
* @CrazyGirl face palms
<@CrazyGirl> I ddin't say I love you
<@sedge> who loves who?
<@CrazyGirl> everyone loves me?
<@sedge> Oh... I thought Wop said something about you saying you loved him
<@sedge> I just thought that I could spread that news around NS a bit
<@sedge> maybe mention it in the next update...
<@CrazyGirl> I don't love him
<@CrazyGirl> He just removed my aops
<@CrazyGirl> the bastard
<@sedge> lol
<@sedge> but I'm still including it in the next update
* Wopruthien was kicked by CrazyGirl (bastard.)
Wopruthien was later spotted crying in a corner, listening to REM's "Everybody Hurts".

That concludes this update from The Rejected Realms. We'll be back soon with news on such important issues as the delegacy, the setting up of a government, and Wopruthien's unrequited love for CG.

Elections Over!

The elections for the position of Delegate of The Rejected Realms have finally concluded, with Naivetry being elected as delegate. The election was contested by Naivetry and Biblical Importance, with much debate happening about the future of the region. Results were as follows:

Total eligible voters: 23
Total votes cast: 18

How the votes were cast:
Naivetry - 12
Biblical Importance - 2
Abstain - 4

Government?

With the elections over, TRR is expected to move on to sorting out a government for the region, as well as a set of laws to establish how the region operates. More on this (hopefully) in the next update.

Quote of the month
Biblical Importance wrote:
Anur-Sanur wrote:i have a general question, but I think it is an important one.

What makes you different from Naivetry and how do these differences make you the better choice for delegate?
That's a question you should ask your parents. And I don't think it makes me a better candidate than her.
Marriage

Two residents of TRR are to be married later this month - Whamabama and CrazyGirl. This will take place at 11pm GMT on Sunday 23rd January, at #TheWeddingChapel on irc.esper.net . Further information can be found here.

IRC

#TRR has been as busy as ever, with debate on such topics as squirrels, marriage and cooking CrazyGirl on the BBQ. Feel free to join in the madness - we don't bite.

#Gameplay is a newly established channel on esper.net , set up by CrazyGirl in an attempt to bring together gameplayers from across NationStates. This paragraph is a shameless plug for it :P

Other Stuff
  • Anur-Sanur decided to participate in the elections (and not as a candidate).
  • TRR had a special Christmas theme for the forums for a couple of weeks, including special ranks such as Reindeer, Snowman and Elf. However, this has now been disabled, so you'll have to wait until next year to see it again.
  • We still haven't decided on a regional song. This could be connected to the fact that CG was supposed to be organising the vote.

Government

Discussions on a government progressed rapidly, with general consensus amongst members on how it'll be structured. Things have since stalled slightly, since no-one particularly wants to do the next step and actually draft a constitution. Hopefully we'll stop being lazy and get that done by the time the next update is out. The intention is to keep things fairly simple, and to not tie ourselves up in laws. The discussion can be found here.

Foreign Affairs

The Foreign Affairs Department has been working hard, recently opening an embassy with The South Pacific, bringing our total number of embassies up to 20.

Anur-Sanur

Well-known troublemaker Anur-Sanur had a slight meltdown, with it eventually being revealed that he was working with NeeNee (Pristine Angel) on her plans to take over the region. The two fell-out, and TRR residents have been enjoying the various chat-logs posted on the forums since.

Manetheren River

Slightly less well-known troublemaker Manetheren River turned up on the forum, wrote several walls-of-text complaints about the leadership of the region, and now seems to have decided to leave. Late Addition: Biyah confessed that he was Manetheren River. Life in TRR is never boring....

The Rejected Realms Army

The RRA has been busy ensuring the security of the region, and is keeping a close eye on the various endo-swappers sitting in TRR. If you want to help out, it's currently looking for intel operatives.

Lolcats

The following conversation prompted a flurry of TRR lolcats to be made:
* @Naivetry pokes at Krull gently
<@Krulltopia> yes?
<@Naivetry> U liek our forumz, then? :P
* +Dali gasps at Nai
<@Krulltopia> ....
<@Krulltopia> did you just meme at me?
<@Naivetry> um.
<@Naivetry> <_<
<@Naivetry> maybe?
<@Naivetry> >_>
<+Dali> that needs to be chatlogged
* @Naivetry is clearly in need of sleep.
<@Naivetry> noooooo, no chatlogging the bad grammar.
* @sedge will be adding that to the next update
<@Wham> wow, I could correct Nai's grammer, and spelling for one
* @Wham decides not to though
<@CrazyGirl> grammar
* @Naivetry had to stop herself from typing 'teh bad grammerz' just now.
<@sedge> lol
<@Wham> heh, I AM used to it though. :P
<@Naivetry> apparently when tired I become a lolcat.
* +Dali pats Nai
* @Wham chatlogs that too
<@Naivetry> -_-
* @Naivetry is providing much entertainment, it seems.
* +Dali tosses Nai a cheezburger
* @Wham hugs Nai
<@Naivetry> cheezburger!!! nomnomnom
* @Wham also provides Nai with chocolate covered coffee beans
<@Naivetry> oh my gosh, did I just say that?
<@CrazyGirl> Yup, you did
<+Dali> LOL
<@Naivetry> ...
<@Wham> we going to need yo u to breathe though this tube as hard as you can
<@Naivetry> If I'm still awake after midnight tonight, someone take away my keyboard.
* @Wham puts the breathalizer to Nai
Later on...
<@sedge> hmm, I should make a Nai lolcat...
<@Biyah> mmmhmmm
There are now over 30 lolcats of TRR members in this thread.

Whampire

It was revealed on #TRR that Whamabama is actually a Twilight vampire:
* @Wham takes CG to our own person crypt
<@sedge> crypt? That sounds... creepy
<@Wham> it's not
<@sedge> if you insist
* @CrazyGirl screams for help
* @Wham wonders why CG is screaming for help
<@Wham> Is not your hubby enough?
<@CrazyGirl> I'm handcuffed and dragged into a crypt
<@Wham> crypt +bedroom silly.
<@Wham> crypt = bedroom
<@sedge> Wham's a vampire
* @Wham uses slang
<@sedge> He's a Twilight vampire
<@Wham> don't make me hurt you
* @sedge admires Wham's sparkly skin
<@CrazyGirl> ooooh shiny
* @Wham dies
* Wham is now known as Wham|dead
Werewolves in the vicinity are advised to take caution.

Other Stuff
  • A "Dear CG" thread has been started here. Those in need of advice may find it helpful. Alternatively, they may not.
  • CrazyGirl decided to set up a Cult of Naivetry on the forums, with Biyah as Head Priest. Feel free to leave her offerings.
  • Wham recently died on IRC, and was given the kiss of life by Sedge. He was last seen with a loaded shotgun, looking for revenge.
  • CrazyGirl had to be comforted on IRC after watching a particularly scary movie. Apparently the death scene in Bambi caused her to burst into tears and hide behind her sofa.
  • If this update isn't funny enough for you, this should make you laugh.

Constitutionalised

Apparently that is a word! Yes, after weeks of wrangling, we finally have a Constitution. You can view this document in all its glory, here. Principal contributors to the document were Wham, Sedge and Naivetry - the latter insisting on keeping it short, whilst CG posted several times in the thread to complain that the constitution didn't declare her "Supreme Empress of The Rejected Realms". Don't worry, we still love her.

Officers Elections

Following on from the Constitution passing, elections for the Officer positions will be commencing. Officers are the government officials who run the region under the direction of the Delegate. So far, just one candidate has been announced - Sedge. At least you'll keep getting these updates...

Embassies Opened

Continuing with the self-promotion, the Foreign Affair Department (the only government department...) has been busy. Sure, it's well over a month since we wrote an update, but we've been doing stuff behind the scenes. Opening embassies, closing embassies (which reminds me - if you haven't got this update, we probably closed your embassy... not that you'll read this... oh well). There may have been some other stuff too - we really can't remember.

Gameside Embassy Policy

On a similar subject, NationStates now has embassies within the game itself. Our embassy policy remains the same as ever - applications have to be made on the forums, and we expect regular updates, or we'll close your embassy (occasional special exceptions depending on the generosity of the Foreign Affairs Minister - or the generosity of the bribes sent to him). This means that if you request an embassy in-game, it'll be rejected if you haven't already got one established on the forums.

CG's Commendation

Returning to the 'everyone loves CG' topic, there's currently a Commendation of Crazy Girl at vote in the Security Council. Vote for or she'll beat you up.

IRC

Well we don't have quite so many funny IRC quotes as last time. This moment of pure randomness will have to do:

<@CrazyGirl> .............................................
<@sedge> ?????????????
<@CrazyGirl> bAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
<@Krulltopia> ...
<@sedge> mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
<@CrazyGirl> woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooof
<@Krulltopia> cluck?
<@sedge> miaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaow
<@CrazyGirl> peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
<@sedge> oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink
<@CrazyGirl> iiiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
<@sedge> squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeak
<@CrazyGirl> beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh
<@sedge> cock-a-doodle-dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
<@CrazyGirl> grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowl
<@sedge> hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowl
<@sedge> I think that's probably enough? :P
<@CrazyGirl> yeah
<@Wham> ya, I was about to start kicking. :P

Other stuff
  • Legitimately Elected Regional Dictator Naivetry™ has been enjoying the new RMB suppression feature. Ad-spammers should pay attention to the requirements in the WFE if they want their posts to survive.
  • Literally months after CG nagging us to decide on one, we have a regional song: Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix. Citizens are expected to listen to it at least 5 times a day, whilst saluting a burning guitar.
  • The forums reached 30,000 posts, Sedge reached 1,000. Milestones ahoy!

Update No. 6, April 2011

Officer Elections Over

The Rejected Realms now has a government, with the successful conclusion of Officer elections. At the time of our last update, just Sedge was running, but in the days afterwards, Unibot, Biyah and Dalimbar all threw their hats in the ring and joined in the race. With four candidates, and four vacant positions, it was little surprise to see all four confirmed as Officers. Delegate Naivetry allowed the Officers to pick their roles, resulting in the following government line-up:
  • Naivetry (delegate)
  • Sedge (foreign affairs)
  • Unibot (mobilisation)
  • Biyah (domestic affairs)
  • Dalimbar (media)
The Officers have been hard at work since taking up their positions.

TRR Roleplay

Defying its status as a gameplay region, The Rejected Realms now has a 1984 themed roleplay going on, run by Biyah. This has already attracted a number of posters, and the infamous Cult of Naivetry has been assigned to the roleplay section too.

Media

Media Officer Dalimbar has been busy setting up newspapers. The Rejected Times is the highbrow newspaper, covering serious events within the region and the NationStates world. The Mop and Pail is our trashy tabloid, and the first edition can be read here. The NS Crossfire IRC debates of 2009 have been revived, and will be starting again shortly.

Mobilisation

Unibot has been contacting new members of The Rejected Realms in order to get them active on the forums. This has already proved successful, with several new registrants on the RR forums. We hope to see even more in the future.

Sedge Condemned

As retaliation for Commend Crazy girl, CG wrote, submitted, and campaigned for the WA Security Council proposal 'Condemn Sedgistan', which passed by a significant majority, resulting in Sedge being the first person in NationStates to be both Commended and Condemned. Work will start shortly on Liberating him...

Crazy girl modded!

Yep, that's a pig you see flying past your window. Crazy girl has now joined fellow Rejected Realms resident Sedgistan on the ebil NationStates mod team. Rumours that this was done to stop CG posting her 'I want my magic powahs!" threads have been strenuously, if unconvincingly, denied.

IRC log of the month
<@Nai|Dinner> NS has ruined politics for me. I look at stuff going through our state legislature, and I feel like telling people, "i c wut u did thar and I hate u all"
<@CrazyGirl> Someone quote her on that.
<@sedge> it's going in the next update
<@CrazyGirl> Thanks, Sedgey
<@CrazyGirl> Sorry, Nai :p
All that other stuff that I can't quite be bothered to write more than a sentence about
  • Sedge was recently lynched for uploading a Twilight theme on the forum for April 1st. Apparently Whamabama led this, after learning his account was re-named 'Whampire' for the day.
  • WANTED! More of these posters, please...
  • A new thread, Blame Sedge was started, with participants invited to say what they blame sedge for. Unfortunately the thread veered off-topic, with some posters deciding to blame Wopruthien instead. Sedge has been blamed for this threadjack.

Update No. 7, May 2011

Statement on events within The South Pacific

The Rejected Realms decided not to intervene during Devonitian's recent coup in The South Pacific, believing that the people of The South Pacific should have the right to choose their own delegate. We were deeply disturbed to find that the ousted government of The South Pacific did not share our conviction. Instead of relying upon the endorsements of TSP natives, Southern Bellz and other members of TSP's forums called on their personal friends from outside regions such as Qwendra and on the assistance of the FRA in their attempt to regain power.

While we do not approve of Devonitian's use of post suppression and banjection to silence opposition, neither can we excuse the sense of entitlement to power demonstrated by Southern Bellz and her government. Tradition alone does not give any group of nations the right to control the delegacy of a feeder. That right - that privilege - belong only to those communities who actively work to foster growth in NationStates.

The government of TSP cannot claim to be such a community. On Oct. 29, 2010, The Rejected Realms requested an embassy with The South Pacific. Our request was approved on Feb. 7, 2011 after numerous inquiries from our officials; but in the months since we have heard nothing from The South Pacific either in our embassy or theirs - no acknowledgment of our updates, and not even a request for aid during Devonitian's coup.

This silence is only one example of basic dysfunction within the putative government of TSP. Southern Bellz's loss of the delegacy was not the failure of an individual, but of a government system fatally disconnected from the region it was meant to serve. Instead of directing their energies towards caring for and connecting with the nations of their region or even with other regions in NationStates, members of The South Pacific's forum turned inward, enjoying the prestige and publicity of controlling a feeder without exerting any effort to nurture community in that feeder in return. Instead of reaching out to nations in The South Pacific, forum members expected activity to come to them; it should not have come as a shock that Devonitians was happy to oblige.

When Kandarin handed over his nation to Naivetry in October 2010, TSP's delegate Southern Bellz refused to exchange embassies with The Rejected Realms (in contradiction of standing TSP policy) on the following grounds:
I feel uncomfortable opening an embassy with The Rejected Realms at this due to the fact that I think the nation handing that went on is a underhanded technique that underminds game play. Considering my platform as delegate is a very pro-game play stance, I feel by accepting the embassy, I acknowledge this type of delegate transfer as legitimate.
In relying on outside forces to prop up a delegacy lost to a native-endorsed challenger, Southern Bellz and the government she represents used an underhanded technique to ensure their continued hegemony over ordinary nations in The South Pacific, undermining gameplay and its requirements of continued activity from the delegate. By maintaining the embassy, we would be acknowledging this type of delegacy monopoly - one predicated on a refusal to engage with the natives of the region - as legitimate.

In light of recent events, therefore, The Rejected Realms has no choice but to suspend diplomatic relations with The South Pacific. Additionally, we do not at this time recognize Southern Bellz as the legitimate delegate of The South Pacific.

If the forum-based community of The South Pacific wishes to be recognized as the legitimate government of TSP, they must legitimize themselves not only to each other or to outside kingmakers such as the FRA, but to the people they claim to represent: the nations of The South Pacific. Until we are satisfied that the regional forum is no longer held aloof and isolated from the region itself, The Rejected Realms cannot recognize the forum government of TSP as the legitimate voice of the region.

We will continue to monitor the situation, and when we are satisfied that the sitting delegate, whoever that may be, has been legitimized by the community within the region itself, we will reconsider this decision. Until then, our thoughts and best wishes are with all the nations of The South Pacific.

Assembly Assembles

The Assembly of the Rejected Realms has been incredibly busy over the last month. First off, the alliance with Lazarus was modified to reflect changes within the region and NationStates over the last few years. It has now been passed by both sides, and we hope to maintain our friendship with our sister Sinker region for many more years. Following the conclusion of that debate, membership of the FRA was debated (more below), and the Assembly is currently considering such issues as votes of no confidence, introducing a Speaker to the Assembly, and allowing citizenship applications to be approved, minus voting powers, whilst elections/key legislative debates are ongoing. We will let you know the result of these discussions in our next update.

FRA membership debated

As part of the review of TRR's Foreign Affairs commitments, we held a noisy debate on retaining membership of the Founderless Regions Alliance. The Rejected Realms has been a member of the FRA since August 2007, but due to the change in membership and government, it was felt appropriate for the region to vote again on whether it wanted to retain membership. After two weeks of argument, the vote eventually finished in favour of retaining membership.

However, following this debate, the controversial actions of the FRA in The South Pacific, as well as the undiplomatic behaviour of FRA Arch Chancellor, Unibot, have led to TRR pushing for Unibot's impeachment in the FRA Regional Assembly.

Anur-Sanur revelations

The following announcement was made earlier today:
Anur-Sanur's citizenship has been removed for working to unseat the legitimately elected delegate of the region, and for leaking the contents of the citizens' restricted access forum. His nation is Realmmatorr II - please do not endorse him.
Evidence for this was provided by former TSP delegate, Devonitians, who was contacted by Anur-Sanur about unseating Kandarin (Naivetry) from the delegate position. The full statement with copies of the telegrams can be found here.

Unibot resigns, Earth challenges

Following several weeks of inactivity as Officer of Mobilisation, Unibot was challenged by new citizen (and former Europeia President) Earth22. Unibot swiftly resigned from the seat, acknowledging that he did not have time for the position. Earth22 is currently running unopposed, and has put forward several exciting plans to further increase activity within the region. It is particularly hoped that these will help to engage newer members of NationStates within the region.

Tags tags tags

Following the introduction of tags to NationStates, the Rejected Realms has been tagging itself. As well as holding the exclusive 'Sinker' tag, and the not-so-exclusive 'Founderless' and "Gargantuan" ones, we have declared ourselves as Democratic, Offsite Forums, Neutral, Game Player, Regional Government, and World Assembly. Debate is currently taking place on adding more (such as Security Council), although regional despot Naivetry is refusing to tag the region as 'Totalitarian', claiming it would reflect badly on her benevolent rule.

Media and Information department gets busy

Officer Dalimbar has appointed Oliver Dion-Grey as Moderator of NS:Crossfire and Deputy Officer of Media and Information. He will be working with Dali on planning all media releases, as well as helping to get the NS:Crossfire debates going again. Following a test run, the first proper debate was held on the events in The South Pacific, and can be read here. Ollie has already demonstrated his talent for the job by threatening to set a hamster on anyone who doesn't help out. In the meantime, the team have written well-received articles on the happenings in TSP, and the current crisis in Europeia.

TRR Roleplay commences

Biyah has been getting TRR's "1984" roleplay going, with several people having posted their nation's RP information and joining in the roleplay. Earth22 was announced as Deputy RP Mod, and is expected to get to work shortly.

Monthly IRC Highlights
* @CrazyGirl smells
<@Felasia> Damn, I missed the most exciting thing that happen on NS in months...
<@Biyah> don't worry, it'll blow up in another month
<@Biyah> when TSP notices
Other news
  • TRR now has 40 citizens, a record level, with activity at an all-time high.
  • Sedge is looking for a Deputy Foreign Affairs Officer. I'm not actually advertising this to people in other regions who read this update - I'm just hoping that one of my ambassadors reads this and thinks "ooh, I could do that!"

The Rejected Realms' statement on the identity of Devonitians

In the days since the revelation of Devonitians' identity, we in The Rejected Realms have spent many hours discussing the events surrounding his coup of The South Pacific. We make this statement now as a region, recognizing that while the views of our individual members vary, we stand united in affirming the truth of the following statements.

While serving as Foreign Affairs Officer in The Rejected Realms, Sedge took control of the delegacy of The South Pacific under the nation Devonitians, using all native endorsements. Only Crazy Girl, who followed him to TSP shortly after he was elected delegate, was aware of Devonitians' identity prior to his seizure of the delegacy. Biyah and Dalimbar, also Officers of The Rejected Realms, discovered Sedge's identity and attempted to work with him to influence the outcome of the elections procedure he had begun. TRR Delegate Naivetry was informed of Sedge's identity shortly before the end of the coup, after Devonitians had forwarded correspondence to her concerning another nation's attempt to overthrow TRR, but was not privy to any other discussions which took place during the event.

During the coup and its aftermath, Sedge neither asked for nor received any help from The Rejected Realms. Biyah and Dali secretly assisted him in pursuit of their own private agenda. Crazy Girl's involvement was limited to chatting on the RMB and endorsing Devonitians (in compliance with his rules for election) shortly before he was forcibly removed from the delegacy. Contrary to the statement issued by Biyah, neither Crazy Girl nor Sedge "used their positions to push TRR into neutrality". In fact, no citizen of TRR ever proposed, either in public or in private, that The Rejected Realms should intervene. Our neutrality as a region was consistent and complete, based on the understanding - prior to any of our citizens' discovery of Sedge's identity - that we had no right to involve ourselves in the internal operations of another region.

Following the return of the delegacy to Southern Bellz, The Rejected Realms issued a statement criticizing TSP's regional government for a lack of engagement with the region, and suspending diplomatic relations. While Sedge as Foreign Affairs Officer initiated the embassy closure, the content of TRR's statement was not impacted by the knowledge of who Devonitians had been. Rather, it outlined a theory of government predicated on the responsibility of a feeder government to all of its residents. We continue to assert that the legitimacy of a government in the feeders depends not on the opinion of a subset of nations on offsite forums, but on the degree to which that offsite government works to represent all of the nations it serves.

As a foreign region, The Rejected Realms has no right either to condemn or to approve of coups which involve only the endorsements of those native to a region. Accordingly, we do not, and never have, condoned Devonitians' coup of The South Pacific. Furthermore, we strongly condemn the manner in which the coup was conducted in its latter stages, as Devonitians resorted to the ejection and suppression of native opposition to maintain his control over the delegacy. We also condemn the use of outside troops on either side, and we remain disappointed that the first such troops to infringe on the sovereignty of The South Pacific were brought in to depose a delegate elected solely by native endorsements. We maintain that the appropriate first response to a shift in native endorsements would have been an unendorsement campaign; in that way, control over the delegacy would have remained in the hands of the natives of The South Pacific rather than in the hands of outside military forces. By bringing in outside troops, The South Pacific's forum government chose to place their trust in foreign allies rather than in the hands of the nations they were supposed to represent. The reluctance of the government to place its fate solely in the hands of the residents of The South Pacific underlines the degree to which the forum had become disconnected from the region as a whole. That disconnection was - and remains - the only reason TRR has suspended relations with the forum government of TSP.

The Rejected Realms is a unique community, composed not only of people who consider TRR their primary home, but also of those whose interests in NationStates extend to other regions and organizations. While we remained neutral as a region, our citizens were responsible as individuals for action on both sides of the conflict; citizens of TRR moved in to support Southern Bellz as well. In making this statement, we uphold the right of all of our citizens to take action which differs from the position of The Rejected Realms as a whole. In return, we expect them not to use their positions within TRR to further their own individual goals, but to place the well-being of TRR and its community ahead of their individual agendas.

To the extent that we believe those involved in events in The South Pacific have failed in their responsibilities to the community of TRR, we will pursue sanctions against them as individuals in our own region and for that reason alone. The Rejected Realms remains a place of refuge committed to a policy of neutrality and non-interference in the internal affairs of other sovereign regions, while the newly restarted Rejected Realms Army remains dedicated to defense and the protection of regional sovereignty across NS. We thank those in the interregional community who have given us time to respond collectively to these events for their patience, and encourage those who have additional questions to direct them to our embassy, our Delegate, or our acting Officer of Foreign Affairs, Guy.

Update No. 8, June 2011

Officer Changes

Since the previous update, the government of the Rejected Realms has seen several changes, both in personnel and duties. As was mentioned in the last one, Earth22 had challenged for the position vacated by Unibot. She was successfully elected, and has taken charge of mobilisation and internal affairs. Earth has done a significant amount of work since being elected, telegramming several hundred nations in the region to get them engaged in the community, and involved in the forums. She has been abroad for a couple of weeks with limited internet access, but will be back home (and back to work!) soon.

Biyah later resigned his Officer position, with Guy contesting the vacant position, and being elected. Guy has taken on the Foreign Affairs brief from Sedge, who has now moved to Administrative Affairs. However, RL has intervened, and Guy is currently on a leave of absence, with Sedge temporarily covering for Foreign Affairs. Late addition: Guy resigned from his position, leading Aurora to challenge for the vacancy. Guy then bizarrely returned and announced he would be challenging for the vacancy he just created.

Dalimbar has also resigned his Officer position, and departed the region. His former deputy, Oliver Dion, ran uncontested for this position, and is likely to take over Dali's old brief with a slight modification to become "Media and Entertainment".

The South Pacific and Devonitians
Written by Naivetry
As most of you know, we have recently released a statement on the identity of Devonitians, which has been posted in embassies. The fall-out from the coup, the revelation that Sedge was Devonitians, and the manner of Biyah and Dali revealing this, have dominated our attention for the last month, with over 200 posts on those topics either in public or in the private citizens' area. Several of our citizens have also been active in discussions abroad - e.g. in The South Pacific, in 10000 Islands (1), in 10000 Islands (2), and on the official forums in the revelation thread, in our embassy, and in discussions around an opinion piece by Oliver.

Meanwhile, we have been happy to greet visitors from TSP such as LadyRebels, Topid/Daynor, and Belschaft (now also a TRR citizen) on our forums. During the recent unendorsement campaign run by puppet nations to overthrow Daynor, we quickly noticed that the "evidence" (poorly-faked screenshots) of electoral corruption in TSP had been manufactured. Naivetry visited TRR's old embassy in TSP to continue positive dialog between our regions, as well as to clarify our disapproval of the puppeteer and offer TRR's assistance. While the ejection of Californiaaaaaa was regrettable, it was also necessary, and we have been happy to note that TSP has been calmer but still active since.

Citizens

The Rejected Realms currently has 48 citizens, a stunning achievement considering the state of the region last year. This growth in active members has shown no signs of slowing down recently.

There has been some controversy over Biyah's resignation of citizenship, and subsequent re-application. No decision has been taken at the moment on this application, which has led to discussion on putting a time-limit on the mandatory security checks that applicants undergo.

Former citizen Secretary of Ni departed the region after challenging for the Officer position vacated by Guy. When questioned why he had registered on the forum with a throwaway email address, didn't have a WA nation, and hadn't logged into NS nation since being founded and moving straight to TRR, he departed in a not-at-all suspicious way.

Founderless Regions Alliance

The Rejected Realms recently pushed for the impeachment of Unibot, the former Arch Chancellor of the FRA. Whilst this measure failed, he subsequently resigned due to the loss of confidence in him from Assembly members and his Cabinet. Another issue we have had with the FRA, the "Rogue Delegate Policy" has been resolved by the FRA Assembly changing its policy on feeder and sinker affairs. We look forward to continuing to enjoy the benefits of FRA membership.

Rejected Realms Army re-started

The RRA was temporarily shut down for a couple of months earlier in the year, due to a lack of activity. However, it has now been re-started under Commanders Guy and Wopruthien, with the latter also heading up the RRA Intel Department. The RRA has already been out defending regions across NationStates from the threat of invasion.

For once, our quotes are not lewd:

[17:53] <@sedge> scary is something we do well :P
[18:21] <@Nai|Linux> ^ that should be our motto or something. :P
[18:21] <sedge> go add that to the irc quotes thread :P

Update No. 9, July 2011

Naivetry announces resignation

The Rejected Realms Delegate Naivetry, has announced that she is standing down from the position. The following is an excerpt from her speech:
A few of you knew this was coming. Some of you may have guessed. But with this post, I am announcing my resignation from the office of Delegate of The Rejected Realms.

I'm sorry about the timing - more than I can express. Through the frustration and the drama - despite the times when I shook my fist at the appearance of yet another WA resolution or embassy request - still, when it comes right down to it, I wasn't ready to go. I've been hanging on for the last few weeks to make sure we weathered the controversy over the Constitution; while that's still not entirely settled, I think we're on firmer footing than we have been. Either way, I can't stay to see it through with you. I've done what I can; the rest is yours, to build and nurture as you will.

When I was elected delegate, I had hopes of creating a new community here in TRR: running a little news service, having a club for old players to come hang out and reminisce. But what did I get? You - all of you, friends new and old - so much more than I had ever dreamed. You transformed TRR into a brilliant, remarkable place, one bursting with energy and life - and I just sat and watched, stunned, as the desert bloomed. This was not my plan. This was so much better than anything I could have achieved.

Life has a way of taking unexpected turns. Very soon, I'll be studying overseas - a possibility that was only a distant and unlikely option when I took Kandarin's nation less than a year ago. It's taken me a while to learn this lesson, too, but life also has a way of passing you by if you don't stop and live it. I can't let this chance go to waste, torn between my duties here and my work there. I'm still not ready to go... but it's long past time.

Take care of each other. Take care of TRR. I'll be here still to keep the delegacy safe through the elections, and I'll help as much as I can. My nations will stay alive even while I'm overseas; I promised a dear friend I'd look after his, after all, and I intend to keep that promise. But at long last, I think TRR will have a brand new delegate - and that's okay. We're not a region centered around one or two people anymore. And I'm counting on all of you to keep it that way.

In the end, there are no delegates and admins, Officers and citizens, visitors and oldtimers here. There's just people - beautiful, broken people doing their best to bring a little more beauty into a broken world. You are some of the best. You are extraordinary - each and every one of you. Remember that, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

It's been a great ride - full of challenge and excitement and, yes, the best kind of merriment. Thank you for giving me the honor and the privilege of serving as your delegate. Thank you for your trust. Thank you most of all for your friendship, which has made it all worthwhile. I am, and always will be, yours.

The Rejected Realms
Delegate Elections

Following her resignation, elections have commenced, with Sedge, Guy, John Ashcroft Land and Wabbistlayah announcing their candidacy (the latter withdrawing later on). Campaigning is underway, with the following manifestos having been posted: (Note: most are in the Citizens' Private Forum)

Voting starts on the 31st July, and lasts for a week.

Officer changes

Oliver Dion was elected an Officer, and took over the Media and Entertainment brief. However, he then resigned from his position, which is currently vacant. Guy was running against Aurora in another Officer election, but chose to pull out at the last moment, to concentrate on his run for the Delegacy. Aurora was therefore elected as an Officer, and is taking charge of Foreign Affairs.

A slight reshuffle of duties resulted in Sedge being tasked with writing updates, while Aurora gains responsibility for managing the affairs of the Assembly.

Assembly debates

The Assembly has seen several heated arguments, mostly focused around the suggested creation of an invader military in the region. There has also been discussion of the status of the Rejected Realms Army, with some claiming that it does not fall under the control of the Assembly or Constitution, and others arguing the opposite. Additionally, membership of the FRA was raised yet again, this time by Tikal. Unibot also posted a thread on punishing Sedge and CrazyGirl for their involvement in the coup in The South Pacific back in May, with the thread rapidly filling up with the "beating a dead horse" emoticon.

Citizenship issues

Biyah's application for citizenship was eventually rejected by the admins on security grounds, after a wait of several weeks. He decided to appeal this decision, with the appeal being rejected by the Assembly.

Belschaft's citizenship was removed after it was discovered that he was lobbying the FRA to invoke sanctions against The Rejected Realms. Following an eventual clarification that he was only looking for Sedge and CrazyGirl to be punished, the decision to revoke his citizenship was reversed.

Govindia applied for citizenship, a decision which was met with much unhappiness from members of the region. Following a delay of a few days, his application was rejected on the grounds that he was believed to be a threat to the security of the community. This decision was appealed, with the appeal being rejected by the Assembly - with no citizens voting to approve the appeal.

Anur-Sanur

The broken record of the Rejected Realms is still spinning, with Anur-Sanur attempting to use the citizenship controversies to stir up trouble. This approach failed, when Biyah went public about it. In the last couple of days, Anur-Sanur has threatened an un-endorsement campaign against any delegate who supports an invader military being established in the region.

Other news
  • We have opened an embassy with Taijitu, even though they are ebil invaders who briefly took over the region a few years ago.
  • The Harry Potter Extravaganza is winding down after a successful few weeks.
  • Upon realising that we had far too many hilarious IRC quotes to immortalise in our updates, Naivetry started an IRC moment thread, which is rapidly filling up.
  • The BBQ & Grill has seen several random threads, on issues ranging from pokémon to Selena Gomez.
  • The "Abbey is a cat" meme spread rapidly around the irc channel/forum, until it was stamped out by her posting an I am not a cat! thread.
  • Sedge became the number 1 poster, leading the (inevitable) accusations that he is a spammer - which have been strenuously denied.
  • Harmoneia has been beating up people on irc with a trout. PETA are said to be looking for her.

Update No. 10, August 2011

Sedge elected Delegate

The Rejected Realms concluded its delegate elections, with the announcement on August 8th that Sedge had won. Voting was close until the end, with rival candidate Guy finishing 4 votes behind. John Ashcroft Land, who had shaken up the race early on, with his radical manifesto, ultimately dropped out shortly after voting started, leaving the contest a two-horse race.

With the nation Kandarin permanently departing the delegate spot for the first time in 8 years, several outsiders decided to take advantage, and started endo-swapping in the region. While many of them remain at large in the region, they were ultimately unsuccessful, with Sedgistan ascending to the delegate position in-game on the 15th.

One of Sedge's first acts was to appoint three Vice Delegates - CrazyGirl, Spartan Termopylae, and Zyonn, to help keep the region secure, and to assist with his duties. As well as that, he has promised fortnightly reports on the actions of the government, to help keep citizens informed.

Officer changes

As is traditional in The Rejected Realms, there have been several changes to the Officers. Earth resigned for RL reasons, Whamabama was elected as an Officer, and takes charge of Media & Communications, while Aurora has moved sideways to Culture. Elections are currently taking place for the remaining two seats, with Tupelope, CrazyGirl, Chek, Mahaj and Tortallcopperisles the current candidates.

Assembly restructured

While TRR's Assembly has worked as a brilliant recruiting tool, with people applying for citizenship due to their curiosity about the contents of the forum, it was eventually decided to favour transparency, and open up the majority of the forum to public viewing. This can now be seen here. There is still a private section of the forum, where all the really interesting discussions take place.

In addition, the position of Speaker has been created, with Guy writing the legislation for this, and also being the only candidate for the position. As a result, the organisation of the Assembly's affairs will be taken out of the hands of the government.

Rejected Realms Army revitalised

The RRA saw changes too, as Cocodian was appointed a Commander. With the security issues the region has faced due to the presence of endo-swappers, it has been active with defending the region, collecting intel, and deploying to assist other regions.

A small Constitutional amendment also meant that RRA members who are citizens are no longer excluded from the requirement to keep a nation in the region at all times.

Citizenship issues

Evil Wolf had his application for citizenship turned down, on the grounds that he was joining solely to represent outside interests - namely to promote Lone Wolves United's "Scardino Pact", and because he had got several citizens to leak the contents of the Assembly forum. He appealed this rejection, and the Assembly voted in favour of the appeal.

Tikal's citizenship was revoked, due to the belief that she is "Rejected Redeemer", a nation endo-swapping in TRR, and carrying out an un-endorsement campaign against Sedgistan, as well as the suspicion that she leaked information to Evil Wolf. She has appealed this decision, which is currently being voted on.

Update No. 11, September 2011

With CrazyGirl becoming the Foreign Affairs Officer, it was expected that she would be writing this update instead of Sedge, for the first time since our updates started. However, she decided to test an old theory by setting up an infinite number of monkeys with an infinite number of typewriters, to see if they could write an update that was as good as Sedge's. Unfortunately, she could only find one monkey and one typewriter. This is what it wrote:

Officer Elections

As ever, The Rejected Realms has seen changes in its Officer line-up, with CrazyGirl, Mahaj, and Christian Democrats elected. CrazyGirl took over the Foreign Affairs briefing, while Mahaj and Christian Democrats are sharing Internal Affairs and Culture. The region has now enjoyed two consecutive weeks with a full line-up of Officers, a near-unprecedented situation.

CrazyGirl has overhauled the Foreign Affairs team, recruiting new ambassadors, re-assigning embassies, and requiring ambassadors to get more involved with the regions they are assigned to, rather than just posting updates. This change will be seen over the coming weeks, as the ambassador corps continues to expand. In addition, TRR's representatives to the FRA Regional Assembly are being reviewed, with one change already made.

Mahaj and Christian Democrats have overseen the creation of a Mentor scheme to help newcomers to the region, as well as setting up telegram campaigns, both to welcome new nations, and to boost the Delegate's endorsement count. A themed avatar competition has been set up, and planning is underway for a TRR Awards Ceremony.

Officers are now required to write fortnightly reports, which the Delegate compiles into a Government report. While these reports have been much read, apparently they are too intimidating for anyone to want to reply.

Assembly Activity

With Guy elected as Speaker, the Assembly has been discussing a number of issues, including requiring higher voting thresholds for treaties, and setting out in the Constitution the mechanism for declaring war, which briefly went off on a tangent about the RRA's status in the region. Following that recurring debate resurfacing, it is surely only a matter of time before someone suggests we reconsider our FRA membership...

Europeia Treaty - nearly

The Foreign Affairs team negotiated a treaty of friendship with Europeia that was all set to be approved by both sides, until The New Inquisition intervened (nobody expected them) to say that it'd conflict with Europeia's alliance with them. As a result, the treaty was dropped by Europeia, leaving TRR looking elsewhere for potential allies. TRR is still hoping to work with Europeia on various issues, though, and it is hoped that one day we'll be able to have an alliance with them.

Squiptare

TRR's RMB was recently visited by Squiptare, rumoured to be the successor to the Rich Chinese Businessmen from the previous update. He attempted to run for Delegate, but seemed unable to sign up for citizenship and make a proper challenge. His posts on the RMB became more and more annoying, leading to the eventual suppressing of a list of Chuck Norris jokes. This resulted in Squiptare leaving the region to challenge for Europe's delegacy, before moving on just minutes later to do the same in Absolution.

IRC quote of the month

Earth22 turned up on IRC extremely drunk, much to the amusement of everyone else. The entire conversation is too long to post, so here's a sample:
[22:09] * Earth has joined #trr
[22:09] <Earth> J cant type my aozzswrirm
[22:09] * Earth is now known as Guest73007
[22:09] <Biyah`bah> which means - she's worse than Dilber is
[22:09] <Guest73007> Damn ut
[22:09] <Guest73007> I am,ni gusest
[22:10] * Guest73007 is now known as earthieee
[22:13] <@Abbey> oh dear Earth
[22:13] <earthieee> Hahhajsa
[22:13] <earthieee> Aaabbbbbeeet
[22:14] <@Oliver> oh dear
The full conversation can be read here.

That other random stuff we put at the end, as no-one wants to write an entire paragraph on it
  • The Rejected Realms now has over 60 citizens, with a recent influx of World Assembly authors, who have been engaging in our debates on WA proposals.
  • Old-timer and RRA Veteran Getters has returned to shake things up.
  • The Rooftop Poolroom has been cleared out, and is open for business again.
  • A new Arts forum, Like or Dislike was established at the request of Spartan Termopylae.

Greetings, I know it's been a while since our last update. We are hopeful for that to change however, in the mean time lets get things current.

Government:

Delegate: Whamabama (Collector of Souls)

Officers:

Foreign Affairs: Evil Wolf
Internal Affairs: Jeux II
Media: Simon Cowell of the RR
Culture: Tim-Opolis

News

written by Simon Cowell

It was with great relief today that our recently elected Delegate, Wham, finally replaced Guy as World Assembly Delegate for the Rejected Realms.
In what has been a most tumultuous month, Guy was elected Delegate, went inactive for several days, and promptly resigned from the post. His reasons are as yet unspecified. Presumably to become a Game Moderator. As this tragedy has not yet occurred, speculating as to Guy's reasons for leaving is better left to the pages of our local tabloid scum. Before that particular intellectual analysis and speculation commences, please welcome our new Delegate in hopes that he will provide our region with great leadership in his coming term.
It is also your duty, if you are a member of the World Assembly, to endorse Collector of Souls, Wham's nation, to insure that he has a chance to lead. Or fail.

Also noteworthy TRR was raided by TNI last major update. TNI with support from many other groups had raided Belgium with 90+ endorsements on their lead. The a few hours before update the raider delegate began ejecting the raiders to The Rejected Realms, as well as moving himself. With The Rejected Realms just coming off a delegate transfer, endorsement levels were lower than normal, and for a simple raid, the raiders had a massive amount of endorsements. Course this isn't the first time in TRR history that this has happened. It has happened at least 3 times before. It has also been the only way TRR has been taken since 2004 when the Atlantic Alliance, and Mr. Nonchalant did it. Of course nobody has ever taken it for any period of time.

The delegate Whamabama would like to thank all those who came in aid of The Rejected Realms, including Balder, Lazarus, The Pacific, FRA UDL, TITO, Equilism, and any others I maybe forgetting, or even unaware of. I also believe this shows the strength of our community, and we as a region will grow stronger.

Update No. 13, August 2012

So apparently we haven't been writing these updates so frequently. The last one came out in February, and the one before that was written by me (yes, me) in September 2011. Crazy. So I've decided to show people just how easy it is to write one of these, despite barely having any involvement in the region at all. Hopefully it'll encourage them to write updates for you every month. More likely, it'll result in people begging me to write them every month. Still, it's worth a try.

Activity

Okay, activity in The Rejected Realms has been a little lower these last few months. We're no longer the "happening" region, causing all the trouble around NationStates. We've grown up a little, particularly around the midriff, and can often be found pottering around in the back garden, pruning the wysteria and listening to Neil Diamond.

If you've read this far, congratulations. I'll start talking about NationStates stuff now. Whamabama (Collector of Souls) remains Delegate, despite weekly challenges from Christian Democrats (a slight exaggeration, but that's nothing out of the ordinary for us). The Officers are probably very busy doing lots of stuff that means they don't have time for updates. Apparently, welcome telegrams are being sent out to new residents, which may or may not result in more people on the forums.

I should probably mention that at some point a while back, we were invaded by The New Inquisition. You'd forgotten about that? Yes, that's not a surprise.

Scrapping the Constitution

We're not actually scrapping the Constitution. It just makes a good headline. We have a thread by that name in the Assembly, which has devolved into discussion of anything and everything about the region. Lots of good ideas have come out of it, such as the revelatory suggestion that we should "actually do stuff". So here we are, doing stuff. Happy?

Various interesting things we might be doing soon

This is not quite the "everything else" section, but we're nearly there. TRR may be adopting a Mayan theme in the near future*, providing someone organises it. Additionally, we may be participating in war games with the other sinkers. TSP's military has been placed on red alert...

* Upon reading this section, Christian Democrats gave me puppy dog eyes until I added in a mention that he came up with the idea. For the sake of the poor blind puppies, I've edited it.

The Peanut Gallery

After months of lobbying, a petition containing thousands of signatures (where did all those come from?) and a near-revolt, the admins have finally bowed to public pressure, and created a forum for discussion of real-world issues. Yes, the stuff that happens outside your window. Take a look out there now. Scary, isn't it?

This forum is just being trialed, until the admins (who are also NationStates mods Crazy girl and Sedgistan) are assured that they won't be modding another NSG-type forum.

Citizenship Council

This happened a long time ago, but no-one mentioned it to you before. We changed the citizenship process last year, so that the admins were no longer responsible for processing citizenship applications. Instead, a Council consisting of Thought Transference, Whamabama, and Abbey Anumia was set up to do this job. It's rather dull work, and I don't have any jokes to make about it. Sorry.

Thought Transference interceded to say that actually he enjoys the work, but then his forum avatar is Plato, which tells you all you need to know. Exactly.

IRC quote of the month

This regular feature has had to be abandoned, since it's more like "IRC quote of the year". And there are so many entries, that if we included them all, this update would stretch around the circumference of the Earth* five times. You can rest assured that Mahaj probably said something silly, and there was plenty of innuendo.

* That's the planet, not our Speaker of the Assembly. She's a little smaller.

That other random stuff we put at the end
  • Sedge is still being blamed for everything. Given this update, it seems fair.
  • The Rejected Realms Army remains in existence. It also still defends. Woo.
  • The admins have a policy on IPs. It isn't very interesting, and I only included this sentence to pad out the update. This is pure filler.
  • You may or may not actually receive this update. Since we haven't been writing them, no-one has been posting them. It could be that we have no ambassadors left. Either way, you'll find out soon enough. Or not.
  • I have been forced at gunpoint to add that TRR is now hosting a boat race! Don't ask me how that works - read about it here.

Update no. 14, November 2012

New Officer!

This is the reason why you are reading this update, our first in three months.
After some attempts to nag Sedge into writing yet another update, Frattastan announced his intention to do it himself and challenged for the fourth Officer seat, that had been occupied by Vacant since May 18. The decision was met with composed displays of approval, mostly.

Whether Frattastan will be able to meet the standards of enthusiasm and activity of his predecessor, or the infamous Curse of the Officers will make another victim, you will find out by the next update. Maybe.
After the end of the vote, the freshly-elected Officer has been assigned to the Foreign Affairs department, replacing Guy - who has quietly dropped out of NS involvement, a mere eleven months after announcing his retirement. Guess Vacant will have another chance, after all.

Delegate Challenge

Then-Citizen Apollo chose to be ambitious and challenged the sitting Delegate, Wham/Collector of Souls.
The election platform of the challenger was most convincing and firmly persuaded the Citizenry to ... suggest he run for another government position first. Having failed to gain the (constitutionally-required) support of at least two other citizens, no vote took place.
Apollo has since then vanished, failing to respond to any of the questions raised regarding his experience and commitment to the region and finally departing the RR, moving on to shadier endeavours. Namely, authoring Security Council proposals.

Amendment to the PSSP

Following a few controversial events there had been pressing demands to ensure a better enforcement of the Pan-Sinker Security Pact. Finally an amendment has been passed and now violators (individuals) of the Pact can lose citizenship in all the signatories of the treaty and regions that fail to comply with the treaty provisions can be expelled on unanimous decision of the other signatories.

WA voting policy

This paragraph was going to be filled with our voting record of recent World Assembly proposals but well, Christian Democrats found out that *no vote* has been cast (at the time of the writing) on the last four resolutions.
However, we took this opportunity to open a thread in the Assembly and re-discuss the regional WA voting policy.
Currently citizens and regional residents are consulted on each proposal and WA authors are welcome to lobby the Delegate to vote in a certain way, but in the end the decision remains discretionary (even if Delegates have generally committed themselves to follow the opinion prevalent among the citizenry).
So far proposed changes include: force the Delegate to vote according to the will expressed by the citizen in a forum vote, force the Delegate to vote according to the majority will of the WA residents of the region, keeping the status quo, various hybrid systems.
The debate can be seen here.

Everything else
  • The Great RR Ocean Race ended with Almonaster (from Canada) taking the first spot, closely followed by Tim. Fratt arrived last. Ha!
  • The Peanut Gallery, a subforum to debate real-world issues, has seen little use since being opened in August.
Once again we blame our beloved admin team, who apparently scared everyone from posting by saying that the Gallery was "on trial" and would be kept only if people behaved.
  • It is widely agreed that forum member God-Emperor should get an avatar. Or stop posting here.

Statement on the coup in the South Pacific
Approximately twelve hours ago, Milograd, sitting Delegate of The South Pacific, went rogue, removing the link to the community forum, requesting foreign military assistance and launching a purge of several hundred nations against the region.

Beyond the hollow rhetoric, Milograd's actions lack any direction whatsoever outside that of betraying the trust of those same institutions which had elected him and causing needless grief with the displacement of four hundred native nations.

The Rejected Realms cannot accept the rule of a delegate, Milograd, who seems to consider an entire feeder region as a playground for power abuse. We pledge diplomatic and RRA support to ensure a speedy restoration of the legitimate government.

Update no. 15, September 2013

Lots and lots and lots has happened!

But only because it's ten months since the last official update. In the meantime, the TRR Media Corp has taken over providing news/rumours/slander from the region. Unless you've been living under a rock (or in Wysteria), you'll have noticed a lot has changed lately. Most importantly, the Whamocracy has fallen, and we are now living under an iron fisted Frattatorship. All the Officer roles are filled, and we have a new(ish) Speaker after citizens protested Christian Democrats making public a number of private discussions without notifying the Assembly first.

PSSP

The Rejected Realms remains in the Pan-Sinker Security Pact; however, it's getting a little lonely here. Balder and Osiris have withdrawn in the aftermath of Douria's coup, considering the treaty a worthless document and leaving just Lazarus and TRR remaining. In fact, TRR and Lazarus are already allies through another treaty - the doubling up proves just how much we like each other. Petitions to the admins to create a new batch of more reliable sinkers have so far fallen on deaf ears.

NS Cold War

The Gameplay forum is full of tedious, tiresome and tortuous arguments between the NPO and the UIAF as the developing Cold War has hotted up. Citizens of the Rejected Realms have discussed the conflict, considered both positions, and - after a period of deep reflection - given a resounding no to getting involved. Nonetheless, the conflict has impacted on TRR, with the collapse of the PSSP related to it, and a number of exposés relating to the security of the region. Notably, current citizen North East Somerset has been implicated in pushing the Pacific to remove the supposed "FRA dominated" regime from the region. In response, citizens are considering booting him to the Really Rejected Realms.

Rejected Realms Army

The Rejected Realms Army has flourished of late under the command of Frattastan and Wopruthien, and nations flying the RRA flag have been involved in defences of a number of regions, including Capitalist Federation, Tibet, The New British Empire, The Great Green Federation, and The Republic of NationStates, as well as assisting in TSP's delegate transfer (and no, not in that way). The RRA Intel department remains fully active, and agent Onderkelkia continues to work his way up the ranks in The New Inquisition.

Fratt-naming

TRR is holding a competition to find the best nickname for delegate Frattastan. So far, we have:
  • Frattle
  • Frattiekins
  • Fattiestan
  • Fartastan
  • Fratt boy
  • Frattface
Feel free to post further submissions in this thread.
The best one will get mentioned in the next update.

Everything else
  • Frattastan was appointed a Global Mod. So far he has failed to abuse his powers, leaving his peons worrying about just what he's got planned.
  • Culture Officer Wopruthien has been running avatar/flag contests for a while now, with any resident being able to take part.
The winner of each week gets to choose the theme of the next one, with past themes including Disney villains, legends of modern music and historical characters.
  • TRR's number one fanboy, Belschaft, has returned to apply for citizenship. We attempted to find out why, but he disappeared midway through answering.

Update no. 16, December 2013

Hallo? Hallo! Newly-elected Foreign Affairs Officer Guy here, with my first ever TRR update. :)

Officer Elections

In a response to inactivity by the previous crop of Officers, Delegate Frattastan proposed the holding of regular elections for the four positions. Officers are generally tasked with aiding the Delegate in his executive duties, with their roles being determined by him. Under the proposed amendment, drafted by Guy, elections are to be held every four months. The Amendment was carried without a lone objecting vote.

Previously, elections to the Officer positions, like the ones for all other political positions in the Realms, were conducted under the unique Challenge system under which an incumbent holds their office until they are successfully challenged by another citizen. Under the new system, while incumbent Officers may still be challenged, they will also have to face elections scheduled every April, August and December.

Wopruthien was the only Officer who sought to recontest his position in the first ever TRR Officer elections of the kind. Alongside him, citizens Unibot, Horse, Christian Democrats and Guy also vied for election to one of the four positions - meaning one was destined to miss out. Following a well-fought campaign, it was ultimately Horse who had to miss out, with voters turning to more familiar faces to the region - albeit some returning after a long bout of inactivity (or rather, activity elsewhere). The new crop of Officers, who all received the roles they requested from Frattastan, stands as follows:

* Christian Democrats (Internal Affairs)
* Guy (Foreign Affairs)
* Unibot (Media)
* Wopruthien (Culture)

Curbing the Delegate's Powers, ft. a new flag?

Surprisingly, that was not the only Constitutional Amendment passed. The Assembly reserved for itself the power to regulate the Delegate's usage of Regional Controls and WA actions, which was previously entirely within the Delegate's prerogative.

As TRRers sought to establish their regional flag in statute, the realisation that our current flag is quite an antique hit the citizenry. Calls were made to replace the low-resolution flag with a more modern version. None of the proposed flags garnered much support, as they did not quite capture the feel of TRR's old flag.

Eventually, the Assembly passed the Flag Act, enshrining our current regional flag as the official TRR flag and requiring the Delegate to fly it.

Think you can do better? Let us know!

Endotarters

TRR has attracted a wide range of new endotarters to the region, most notably the (not so) mysterious Liegeois. Despite imperialists' best efforts to invade the region, which included mass-TGing all World Assembly nations around the NS world stating that they must endorse Liegeois (and not endorse frattastan) in order to participate in a faux World Assembly conference, Liegeois' endorsement numbers quickly dwindled, even with the addition of foreign troops to back him up.

The Rejected Times restarted!

Following his election to Officer, Unibot resolved to quickly restart the Rejected Realms' media department. The first issue of the new Times was a great success, featuring commentary on the developments in Osiris, an interview with Dalimbar, and assorted regional and interregional news. At the time of writing, a special Christmas edition of the Times is in printing.

Probably recognising his knack towards inducing controversy, Frattastan was overheard threatening Unibot that his role will be changed to "Huggling Fratt" should he slip-up. We wish Unibot the best of luck in his role.

New Face on the Citizenship Council

In-line with TRR's complicated system for appointments to its Citizenship Council (I deserve a prize for it), the senior-most Officer Wopruthien nominated none other than Delegate Frattastan to replace Abbey on the Council, tasked with processing citizenship applications. Frattastan was confirmed by the Assembly with a 17-3 vote. During the confirmation process, some citizens were concerned with a potential conflict of interests for a Councillor to simultaneously hold the position of Delegate. Nevertheless, the citizenry generally believe that it is not an issue, and that Frattastan is the "best man for the job".

Osiris

The Rejected Realms has come to the decision to suspend diplomatic relations with Osiris, due to the political instability which it has been affected by in the past year. We hope that we may restore relations with Osiris soon, and wish it all the best in the meantime.

Rejected Realms Army

In spite of a slowdown in late December, overall RRA activity has increased since our last foreign update, with defenders from the Rejected Realms protecting several regions threatened by invaders (Antarctic Alliance, Antifascist Allstars, Galts Gulch, Sapientia, Middle Earth, Deep Space and Christmas to mention a few), helping the natives of The United States in a refound, and assisting our longtime allies in Lazarus on two occasions.

Following Lazarus's decision to establish a defender military, the Rejected Realms Army has also been the first group to cooperate with them, running a number of joint RRA-LLA missions during the minor update.

Update no. 17, July 2015

Hello. LR here as the Foreign-Affairs Officer of TRR. It's been awhile since our last update, so I hope you all don't miss us too much and enjoy this pleasant update :) .
New Delegate Elected Most excitingly, we have a new Delegate. Following an intense election campaign, former TRR Delegate and prominent RRA Commander Guy was elected Delegate, replacing Unibot.

The election was initiated by Gradea, who first announced his challenge, reasoning that a year was too long for any GCR delegate to hold office. This drew inspiration from the community, as Cormac and Crazygirl also challenged for the position. Finally, Guy placed his name on the ballot. The campaign was fierce and the debates were intense, leading to a number of candidates withdrawing from the race. At the end of the election, the results were clear: McMasterdonia/Guy, a committed member of the community since 2011, pulled a clear majority, ending Unibot's time as Delegate. We thank Unibot for his time at TRR.

Guy highlighted his major plans for the Delegacy as being the improvement of cooperation with other regions on cultural and security matters, as well as continuing the engagement and close relations with the on-site community.
Election Season: Yup, There Were More As mentioned in our last update prior to this one, TRR's constitution was modified to have regular Officer elections every 4 months, to be held every April, August and December. Since then, we also decided to accommodate regular elections for the position of Speaker of the Assembly, who is primarily responsible for maintenance of debate in TRR's legislature. Elections for the Speaker are now held every four months in-between regular Officer elections. Delegate elections, however, will continue to remain on a challenge basis.

The April Officer elections resulted in fierce competition as seven candidates, both newcomers and veterans alike, contested for the four available positions. The results were as follows:

*Christian Democrats (WA Affairs)
*Kyorgia (Internal Affairs)
*Libetarian Republics (Foreign Affairs)
*Sad-States (Human Resources)

Prior to the Delegate election, the June Speaker elections were held. Guy was re-elected unopposed. Following his election to the Delegacy and vacation of the Speakership, a new contest was held for Speaker.

Two candidates put themselves forward for Speaker: ChurchofSatan and Tim Stark, otherwise known as Osiris' Pharaoh. Following a very tight vote, and the candidates making their cases to the best of their abilities, Tim eventually secured the Speakership with a vote of 10-6. We're looking forward to the Timtatorship his most benevolent Speakership.
Helping Lazarus The formation of the NLO in Lazarus and subsequent conflict strongly affected all aspects of TRR life. Lazarus is the RR's closest and oldest friends, the true bonds of friendship also being reflected by no less than four treaties. TRR immediately took the lead in responding to the situation, first attempting to secure a diplomatic solution through encouragement of the NLO regime to undo its devestating actions, and then more proactive measures through deployment of the RRA and the provision of temporary shelter and BBQ to the Lazarene natives-in-exile. TRR further boosted diplomatic support for the LUS by withdrawing embassies from the NPO and voting for their condemnation.

The RRA was closely involved with the Lazrene liberation attempt, with several RRA veterans leading the charge against the NLO through endo-tarting and RMB support. More importantly, the clandestine plan that eventually led to the NLO's demise with closely supported by RRA Commanders Frattastan and Guy.

We wish our Lazarene friends all the best with their new government and Constitution, and we are looking forward to continuing working with them closely.
Speaker's Report Howdy everyone! While I'm currently serving in another office, I had the privilege of being TRR's Speaker for the previous few months beforehand.

The last two months were very busy ones in TRR's Assembly. Delegate Unibot laid out an ambitious legislative reform agenda, which included both Constitutional and statutory changes.

First, following passionate debate on our regional identity, TRR chose to entrench in its Constitution its respect for the principle of regional self-determination and opposition to invasions. This idea seems to have caught on, with our Lazarene friends using similar wording in their new Constitution. Second, as mentioned above, regular elections were extended to the Speakership. Lastly, TRR enacted its very first Charter of Civil Rights, which provides for ten rights afforded to all Rejectees, that decision-makers should have regard to.

Treaties have also been keeping the RR busy, with no less than eight treaties being ratified this year alone. Many of the Treaties involve reaching out to regions not usually involved in Gameplay, such as International Northwestern Union, while others are with more established regions such as Osiris.

Some proposals have not enjoyed as much success. Gradea proposed legislation relating to Vice Delegates, forming a Security Council (bearing a likeness to TNP's) and providing the power to declare nations Persona non Grata to the Delegate. These proposals were rejected by the community, as they had either already been provided for by existing law, or they failed to take into account TRR's unique situation in lacking the power of ejection. We wish Gradea every success with his future legislative endeavours.
Rejected Realms Army's News The RRA is still here, and still defending 12 years since its inception. It participated in several defensive missions including liberation of belgium, Eternal Scholars, and A Blank Canvas. The RRA assisted with the delegate transitions in the North Pacific & supported the liberation efforts during the recent Lazarus crisis.
News In Brief * The Citizenship Council is under new management. The Council consists of long-standing citizens Frattastan, Guy, and Christian Democrats.

* Natives of Taco Island invade Kandyland! Recently, the natives of 10000 Islands arrange a friendly visit to the Rejected Realms RMB. We celebrate with BBQ & Tacos.

* CG complains for more coffee

Update no. 18, December 2015
Greetings friends and allies! It's been five months since our last update so we're overdue for another one. Here's what's been happening in The Rejected Realms!
New Delegate Elected Back in mid-June Guy was elected delegate and he did a good job. Unfortunately Guy stepped down because he no longer had the time to lead our government. Maybe he'll come back to the big chair someday. We would certainly appreciate it. This time around we had 4 candidates for the delegacy, Crazy Girl, kyorgia, Libetarian Republics and Christian Democrats. In true TRR tradition, Crazy Girl ran for delegate with no intention of actually taking the job. In fact that was her campaign. Kyorgia campaigned a strong emphasis on Recruitment and Integration. Libetarian Republics campaigned with a focus on Foreign Affairs, Culture and Integration. Christian Democrats campaigned with a very strong emphasis on quality & efficiency, hoping to merge various parts of the forum and improve the quality of work each department would pursue. After voting ended it seemed that Crazy Girl would have won by just one vote. However at the last second she withdrew from the race, not anticipating that she would win. Following voting procedure, the results were finalized.
Most of the candidates campaigns were positive overall, however concerns over Christian Democrats pro-life views with regards to World Assembly votes came up when he confirmed that there could be times when he would disregard the citizens choices in favor of his own. This contributed in some manner to the overwhelming success of Libetarian Republics' campaign. Libetarian Republics was elected with 11 votes. Although Christian Democrats protested the results due to Crazy Girl's withdrawal from the race, it would do little more than prolong an unnecessary conversation.
Officer Elections Officer elections this time around was not so competitive as the delegate election. There were just enough candidates to fill all four positions, leaving just a confirmation vote. Incumbents Church of Satan and kyorgia ran for re-election, retaining their places in the cabinet. New faces to the regional government "game", 98X and SpiderJerusalem ran as well. All four candidates were elected with no competition or campaigning. Delegate-elect Libetarian Republics would place Church of Satan as Foreign Affairs Officer, kyorgia as Outreach Officer, 98X as Culture Officer and SpiderJerusalem as Media Officer. Outreach, the first change enacted by Libetarian Republics, is in charge of both recruitment AND integration. With the cabinet elected work has begun in making The Rejected Realms better. Here's hoping for a great term!
TRR at The NS World Fair At the fourth annual NS World Fair, The Rejected Realms would once again celebrate Rejectmas with friends from across NationStates. As it did last year, Rejectmas went over well with visitors proclaiming "I love disconnected culture! Have a very hairy Rejectmas everyone", "I love your rejectmas manual too.", "Tangerines!" and "This is the most interesting regional booth I've visited so far." Tangerines and omelettes abound, Rejects and visitors alike took part in the traditional Rejectmas activities of truth-saying, fear-sharing and telling one another what they would lock up in cabinets so as to prevent their theft by The Silver Ghost. The new addition to our booth however, was a cryptic puzzle created by then Culture Officer, Church of Satan, who would discover that no fair-goer was able to solve it, both to his surprise and dissatisfaction. All things considered, everyone had a very smooth Rejectmas.
RRA Update Over the last 5 months the RRA has taken part in numerous missions. Most notably its participation in the liberation and refounding of Hogwarts which is no longer in the possession of the invaders that had once stole it from the native community. The RRA also participated in the defense of Scandinavium and Union of Sovereign States among others.

Hello friends and allies! It's been a few months since our last update so without further delay, here's what's been happening in The Rejected Realms!
Officer Elections - The Previous Term During the previous term, 98X resigned from his position as Media Officer due to real life obligations. Tomb and Koth ran for the vacant spot however Tomb would be the one elected as Media Officer, putting out one issue of The Monthly Reject in that time. During that time, Spider Jerusalem also resigned from his position as Culture Officer due to real life obligations. Madaloria ran for the position and had a successful term following his successful planning for the Constitution Day festivities. No longer wishing to serve as Speaker, Tim resigned his position. Guy was elected Speaker in a confirmation vote.
Officer Elections - Now The Church of Satan and Madaloria ran for and were re-elected to their prior positions. Joining them were newcomers Nobodies and Werpdrarg, all of which ran unopposed. The Church of Satan has resumed his prior job as Foreign Affairs Officer. Madaloria resumes his prior job as Culture Officer. Nobodies now serves as Media Officer in charge of The Monthly Reject. Werpdrarg serves as Outreach Officer. With so many fresh faces in the cabinet, it's hard to say how things will progress.
RMB Activity The month of March saw no shortage of malicious spam resulting in more suppression of posts and moderator intervention in that month alone than seen over the last several months. It's hard to say why that is but it is hopefully an isolated incident.

March also however was the month in which we would celebrate Constitution Day. With good planning by Madaloria, the festivities were successful, seeing increased (positive) RMB activity from several friends and allies across NationStates. A belated "thank you" to those of you that attended. We were happy to see you there!
Tiebroken After the end of the previous election, we at TRR found that our tie-breaking procedure sucks. Initially if there was a tie in the elections, the candidate who joined the regional forums earlier shall be favored. While everyone on NationStates has an account on our forums (I mean who doesn't right?), the candidate that registered first is automatically favored in procedure. Taking into account the permanency of the registration date and flexibility of applying for citizenship, the Assembly amended the Election Act by having the tiebreakers broken in reference to the vote of current officials. If the votes by the officials were not cast, the candidate with the longer continuous citizenship ultimately wins.
Poll-It-Bureau introduces Citizen of the Week Polls are popular among Rejects; to incentivize registering for citizenship, the Poll-It-Bureau introduces Citizen of the Week. The Delegate, under some arbitrary criteria, selects a citizen to have polling powers for that week. Citizens can poll Rejects over a wide range of topics from politics to cuisine.

Our first Citizen of the Week is Jeffersonborg, popularly known as Codger elsewhere. He is credited for the suggesting this idea, and he is notoriously known by Rejects for his hate for freedom. His poll regarded a prison warden of The Rejected Realms; one day you find a Reject trading in contraband, containing matches and pamphlets calling for greater democracy in the region. What would you do afterwards? The results were quite interesting.

Our second Citizen of the Week is Bowiemoria. He is known for his enthusiasm about BBQ, and made a poll about the favorite type of BBQ items. He invited players around the world to vote as well.
TRR Issues Committee’s goal is to create quality, original issues and improve the experiences of Rejects and nations worldwide. TRR’s first issue was announced around January 2016 when sedge mentioned the recent addition of Issue #483. Submitted in May 2015, the processing took 3 delegate terms; the long, tedious wait was eventually realized. Congratulations to all that contributed to this achievement. Below in the spoiler is Issue #483 and the options the players can pick. If received in-game, you’ll notice on the bottom right “Issue by: The Rejected Realms Issue Committee.”
Spoiler: click to toggle

News In Brief *Islanders of the 10000 Islands visited the Rejected Realms in January, celebrating with tacos & BBQ.

* CG complains for more coffee, and Jeffersonborg complains for less freedom.

*Sirius3108, one of the largest class regions in NationStates, has established embassies with the Rejected Realms!

*Codger proposed forming a "Like Legion", a group dedicated to liking quality RMB posts.

*Initials for the Rejected Realms: TRR or tRR?

Visit our Discord and our Forum

WA Delegate: The Church of Satan
| Culture Officer: Catalyse | Foreign Affairs Officer: Wabbitslayah |
| Media Officer: John Laurens | Outreach Officer: Marilyn Manson Freaks |
Speaker of the Assembly: Kyorgia

An election, and another election... and wait, is that another election?
If there's one thing we can be sure of it's that the Gods of elections are surely pleased with The Rejected Realms. Throughout the last three months several worthy candidates have lined up to be sacrifices to the Gods of elections, but only a few of them were holy enough to enter the sacred walls of Electionhalla. Even some of those that were thought to be worthy at first were rejected entry into Electionhalla, and were expelled from it, or how we call it in Electionism, they resigned.

The first of the several sacrificial rituals started in August, and several pious rejects lined up, citing the reasons of why they were worthy, and soon enough all rejects were enjoying the election rituals, casting their vote into the sacred ballot box. Flower Boy, Catalyse, Katie Rybeck and Frattastan were deemed worthy of being sacrificed this election season, but many of them were not capable of faring through the trials and tribulations the gods set before them.

By early September one of the officers had already been excommunicated, resigned, and a challenge for this newly vacated position, erupted from two worthy candidates, Marilyn Manson and John Laurens. Battling between each other with the best election weaponry they could find, in the end, after Manson had received 13 votes and Laurens had received 6, it was Marilyn Manson that was chosen to be sacrificed on the Holy Sepulchre of Outreach on the 8th of September.

Soon after another challenger appeared from the crowd. Wabbitslayah challenged Frattastan, who decided to not meet his opponent on the field and instead cower inside the walls of Electionhalla, which was not a good sign of things to come. In the end Wabbit was selected to be an officer on the 16th of September, while Frattastan was expelled from the godly realms.

But this wasn't the last we had seen of Laurens, and again on the 12th of October, after another resignation occurred, he again battled, this time with his wits as no worthy opponent had emerged from the crowd, to obtain the favour of the gods, and after four days of strenuous discussion with the gods he did.

Last but not least, undefeated and unopposed champion in the coliseum of Speaker elections, Kyorgia was again chosen as the holy champion of the Assembly, the Speaker. And now, with only a few days before the next holy festivities we await for the new candidates.
Werewolf Fever There's a new fever passing through The Rejected Realms, and it all started on the night of the 15th of October when a hooded man was spotted poisoning the water depots. A lab analysis of the water discovered that it had been contaminated by the lycanthropy virus, but by then it was already too late to stop the virus from spreading through the water supply.

As generalized distrust between the citizens of the region and chaos ensued, the mayor of The Rejected Realms, Frattastan, was found dead in their office. Further inspection showed that not only had he been killed by a werewolf, but that he was the one who had contaminated the water supplies too, apparently as a cruel prank. The few citizens that had gathered at the town hall hurried to elect a new mayor, and as soon as they could, hurried back to their houses and hoped for the best during the night.

To everyone's horror, the new mayor that had promised to find a solution to this crisis had too perished the following night. The townspeople decided that the best course of action was to vote on who they believed was a werewolf, and then executing them. Soon after a consensus was formed as to the guilt of Escade. Escade was taken to the pyre on the town square and lighted on fire, and as she burned many could observe her werewolf fur appear under her skin.

Believing that they were finally free of the werewolf menace, the citizens went about their daily life. To their horrible surprise, they again found another body, that of resident superstar fan, Marilyn Manson, which showed all the signs of having been killed by a werewolf. Again, accusations were flung around, and as the names of Catalyse and Kyorgia were thrown around, it was finally decided that the more suspicious of the two was Kyorgia, who, after being skinned, was shown to be hiding werewolf fur under his human skin.

While The Rejected Realms seems to be safe for the moment, there are scary tales that the epidemic has reached the underground levels of the region only known as discord, where the plight of the innocent citizens continues on.
The Rejects' Brigade The Rejected Realms Army (RRA), otherwise known as the UDL's Rejected Renegade Squadron, continues to soldier on against the raider menace, as the invaders continue to attack The Rejected Realms by sending the worst of the membership of the regions they have raided, such spammers and trolls, and I assume, some good people too.

The RRA has, in the past few months, seen an increase in members, with new recruits coming from all sorts of backgrounds to join the RRA's power couple, guy and frattastan, in the march towards the inevitable continuation of the march. People from all walks of life have flocked to join the RRA: refugees from the latest GCR civil war, recently dugged out FRA veterans, out of work defender ideologues or just your common reject, all have come together.

When lucky enough not to fall asleep during update, the RRA can show itself to be a large force, though sadly the many seniors in its ranks need to take long rests between updates, lest they end up out of commission sooner than expected. If lucky enough, or if Command is daring enough to wake her from her slumber, we can even count on Crazy Girl, who has interrupted her retirement in order to update a few times.

Beyond the usual update routine of liberations, defences and detags against more or less notorious invader groups, the RRA took part in the liberation attempts of Socialist Alliance of Eurasia, where, along with other defenders, we were left to be picked one by one by invader sharpshooters and their BC rifles.

Also noteworthy for us were the minor update of the 23rd of September, when 7 soldiers were able to wake up just in time to set our most recent record of update attendance, and the liberation of Shrektopia and the other operations on the 17th of October when, exceptionally, we outnumbered any other group in Libcord.

At this point we're confident that the only thing that can put an end to the RRA is the RRA itself, or rather, a member of the RRA. As the army's self-appointed chief ideologue, The Grim Reaper, has prophesied, if in his second coming he is not accompanied by any other member of the RRA into update then that may very well mark our end, if not all of R/D or even Nationstates. But until then, the Space Unicorn Brigade marches on. Update written by Catalyse

New Delegate Elected

The RRA parading with a portrait of a former delegate. We're not too sure of which one this is...

For The Rejected Realms, December was not only the holiday season for the celebration of Rejectmas, but it also turned out to be a far larger election period than the triannual general election for Officers. Late into November, Catalyse declared her intentions to challenge sitting Delegate, The Church of Satan, followed soon by the incumbent's declaration of intent to run in opposition, alongside Crazy Girl to again take over the mantle of the perennial candidate.

We'll skip through the boring election process, pass the political manoeuvring and ignore the vote buying by going straight to the election results! Coincidentally, this article happens to be written by election's winner, but that there is just a mere coincidence.

Truthfully the campaign was much less interesting, and much less stressing, than any allegations of wrongdoing or electoral manipulation would have made it, and instead all three Delegate candidates conducted their campaigns respectfully, with the only incident of notice having been The Grim Reaper's torturously long SWOT analysis presented to Catalyse.

The elections were closed on the 11th of December and Catalyse was declared the victor with twenty four first preference votes, while both The Church of Satan and Crazy Girl enjoyed five first preference votes each. This marked the first time in TRR's History that an incumbent Delegate that has decided to contest an election challenge lost an election.

Catalyse's inauguration took place on the 13th, and while the initial celebrations were interrupted by a group of protesters throwing tangerines at the Delegate, the RRA was quickly called into action to curb the resistance, I mean unlawful protests... and make sure democracy takes it's due course.

During her inauguration speech, Catalyse delineated her mandate of which she hopes to accomplish during her term, including her short and long term plans, from reviewing and revitalising TRR's Foreign policies to exploring and developing new cultural activities. Written by Catalyse Hall of Fame given a Rejectmas Present

The Hall of Fame, instituted in late November by the Assembly of The Rejected Realms to honour past members of the region and their contributions not only to its community but to NationStates as a whole, was graced with a most joyous and happy Christmas morning when a gift was found inside the office of the Hall of Fame's Director, right next to the fireplace. A Rejectmas miracle, as some have called it.

The present's wrapping, decorated with drawings of tangerines allusive to Rejectmas, was quickly torn into shreds by the Hall of Fame's Director, after a vote determined they'd be the one to open the mysterious gift, while the rest of those present hid behind the Director's desk.

The present turned out to be a portrait of an angel, along with a plaque with a small biography of someone. Everyone was left befuddled as to what the gift actually was, but a well timed call from the office of the Speaker of the Assembly quickly answered any question that there might have been. Apparently the Assembly forgot to inform that Sedge was to be the first inductee to the Hall of Fame and their induction would quaintly fall on the 25th of December.

Sedge is not only a former Delegate of The Rejected Realms and prominent regional member, having stood out as an Officer and during the time following Kandarin's resignation, he was also one of the most prominent defenders and a NationStates Moderator, credited with having brought better insight and greater attention to many Gameplay-related issues. And perhaps now we add the much lesser achievement of having been the first inductee to our Hall of Fame to his accomplishments. Written by Catalyse A Hairy Rejectmas Story

This year, to celebrate the Rejectmas season, the Delegate opened the hall of the Reject's Palace to everyone and invited all Rejects to participate in the festivities, the banquets and the various activities offered in the festival grounds. The festivities began on the 26th of December, the date marking the traditional start of the Rejectmas season, and will be ending upon the conclusion of its activities.

To show that we were celebrating a hairy Rejectmas, we decorated our numerous cities in black, silver and indigo. Fun fact: dramoon is also recognised by most local authorities as a Rejectmas colour but has been lost since the thirteenth century, yet, some choose to represent dramoon with the colours of either "Thistle", "Chestnut" or "Mauvelous"!

On the RMB, nations were invited to change their flag in the spirtit of Rejectmas and sing Rejectmas Carols, and then further invited to share those carols on the forums so they could be submitted in the Rejectmas Carol Contest for a chance to be dubbed "Head Rejectmas Tangerine Sprite" if their submission was voted the best, along with having their submission featured in a TRR publication!

Other activities and games included a festive purple Rejectmas Tree decoration, a Rejectmas Edition Werewolf game, a Rejectmas Chess Tournament, a Rejectmas Flag Contest, along with several quizzes and spam games. Written by PowerPAOK Thank you for reading!

News from the Assembly

The Grim Reaper punches a Mottoist assemblyman during discussion of the "Regional Motto Act Repeal".

This last month has seen growing activity in the Assembly, not just in the form of elections, of which there have been a few since the last update, but also in legislation and treaties! Two recent proposals have been brought up in the Assembly recently, the "Regional Message Board Act Amendment", which has developed into a proposal of a wider "Regional Officers Act", as the original RMB act predates the existence of Regional Officers, and the "Regional Motto Act Repeal", which deserves its own paragraphs.

The "Regional Motto Act Repeal", proposed by The Grim Reaper, has led to heated discussion and has caused severe division among the ranks of the Assembly, leading to the formation of the two first informal political parties in The Rejected Realms: the Mottoists and the Anti-Mottoists. We will delve further into the two groups that have made the Assembly their battleground during this so-called "Motto Crisis".

The Mottoists, which includes figures such as PowerPAOK, The Church of Satan and Marilyn Manson, argue that to repeal this law would be to gut TRR of a signifcant part its culture, and that the current motto is both meaningful and suitable to TRR, though radical Mottoists, led by Jeffersonborg, despite not being as strong defenders of the current motto, have gone as far as to propose that all RMB posts not including the motto in some way should be suppressed, or that every aspect of TRR other than the regional motto should cease to exist.

The Anti-Mottoists, led by the repeal's proponent, The Grim Reaper, argue that the current motto lacks usage, not even being present in the region's WFE, is not a relevant part of the region's culture and that it is also non-representative and ill-fitting to the region, and believe that the enshrining of any regional motto into law is superfluous. When presented with the possibility of vote on a new motto being held The Grim Reaper had the following to say "If someone runs a motto contest I will genuinely stamp campaign for a no motto option.".

While the Assembly approved of both the "Regional Message Board Act Amendment", with 13 votes for and 8 against, and the "Regional Officers Act", with 18 votes for and 1 against, these matters do not seem to be put at rest. While some wish to again hold a contest on the regional motto, others have already presented an amendment to the Constitution that would replace the "Regional Officers Act", and from which conversation about renaming goverment offices has erupted.

Another recent and important piece of legislation that has been discussed in the Assembly is "Amendment XIX: Delegate Elections", proposed by the current Delegate, which has established that elections for the Delegate position will be held every six months after the previous election, in conjunction with the challenge system, making the election date flexible.

The challenge system in which any citizen can challenge the Delegate for their position, provided their candidacy has enough support, and which was the only way one could run for Delegate before this amendment, after much debate, discussion and counter-proposals, which included a ban on consecutive terms, along with longer or shorter terms, narrowly achieved the 75% approval necessary for it to pass the Assembly, with 21 votes for and 6 against.

In election news, the Assembly saw an highly contested run for the Speaker position. Then-incumbent Speaker Kyorgia faced PowerPAOK, Katie Rybeck and Fauxia. In a very close election that saw Kyorgia delve deep into the hell that is TRR's electoral system, Fauxia was declared the winner after a tie between him and Kyorgia was broken with a borda count of the preferential vote system.

PowerPAOK, who has become an ardent contributor to The Rejected Times since becoming involved in TRR, was also elected Media Officer, with John Laurens choosing to not contest the challenge, though he was not absent from the Officer's quarters for too long, as he soon challenged The Church of Satan for the position of Outreach Officer, who also chose not to contest the challenge, and was elected. Written by Catalyse New Friendships Forged, Old Friendships Strengthened

After having kept for some time a lower profile in the halls of diplomacy - no doubt due to widespread condemnation for its rich collection of hack writers and defender subversives - The Rejected Realms returned to treaty-making business last month, by concluding two new agreements: a cultural-oriented treaty with Forest, and a trilateral alliance with The East and South Pacifics, both of which passed with great support in TRR's Assembly.

Forest is a famous environmentalist region, whose mature debating atmosphere, successful cultural activities and many outstanding inhabitants earned them a World Assembly Commendation last year.
The treaty was atypical for partnering TRR with a non-Gameplay region, and focusing on matters of diplomacy and cultural exchange over security issues, but was received very well.

At the same time, the government also sought to expand our relations in a more conventional direction, that of friendship with TRR's fellow game-created regions. "The January Accords" build upon the previous, fruitful bilateral alliance between The Rejected Realms and The South Pacific, with provisions for mutual defense, intelligence sharing, and cooperation on cultural matters, now extending them to The East Pacific.

Known for its roleplays, its classical democratic constitutional framework, and its love of caek, The East Pacific has experienced a renaissance in various areas under Yuno's leadership, and had been under consideration for a treaty since the beginning of Catalyse's term as Delegate. The three regions assisted each other in their recent Delegate transitions, and look forward to closer cooperation in the near future. Written by Frattastan Awardees and Inductees

The last two months saw several people receive awards for their contributions to The Rejected Realms. The Hall of Fame saw the induction of former Delegates, Kandarin and Naivetry, on the 25th of January, with Crazy Girl, longtime leader of the RRA and root admin and of the region's forums, being inducted on the 7th of February. Additionally, several people won, or were to nominated, to the Rejects Awards, which hopes to establish itself as an yearly event in TRR.

There is much to say about the new inductees joining Sedge in the Hall of Fame. Kandarin was the one of the first, if not the first, native Delegate of The Rejected Realms and still considered an hallmark of The Rejected Realms and still held in high consideration in both TRR and abroad, while Naivetry, as Kandarin's successor, saw many changes come to TRR during her term, such as the adoption of TRR's first, and still current, constitution.

Crazy Girl is the only one out of the current four inductees to not only still be active, but also to not have served as the Delegate of The Rejected Realms, despite probably being the most prolific "Delegate that could have been", not just because of her place as TRR's perennial candidate, but also due to her contributions to the region, her long service as High Commander of the Rejected Realms Army and her highly esteemed place among the NationStates community.

The Rejects Awards saw several nominees, but in the end there could only have been one winner for the several categories. Catalyse, who after becoming a citizen in early 2017 went on to serve in several positions until become Delegate in December won in the categories of best newcomer, Reject of The Year, RRA Newcomer Soldier and Best Government Member

Frattastan was a close second, with three awards, Most Outstanding Officer, The Greymarshes Achievement Award, Veteran Reject Award, followed by Guy, who won in the categories of Best Legislator and Best Werewolf Player. PowerPAOK, otherwise known as Nequedum, who became the Media Officer this year and has led the TRT revival, won the Pen & Paper Award, and Dark Aku, who was a staple of TRR's RMB until his nation CTEing in July of 2017, won the Outstanding RMBer Award.

Additionally, the implementation of the Werewolf bot in TRR's discord and the forum games won the TRR Event of the Year award, while "Gaining Border Control in TRR is like finding a load of paper money in a society where currency has been abolished.", by Fratt, won the Quote of the Year award. Written by Catalyse Endorsements and Citizens on the rise

With both the number of nations endorsing the Delegate and the number of citizens increasing, and with all-time records in both being beaten, the government of The Rejected Realms has reason to be positive about the region's outlook.

The number of nations endorsing the Delegate has seen continuous growth since Catalyse was elected to the position, finally reaching the much awaited threshold of two hundred on the 12th of February, which, barring times when foreign militaries were endorsing the Delegate, has set a new record for the region, breaking Libetarian Republic's 195 endorsements.

Reaching two hundred endorsements translates into an endorsement rate of 39%, which despite being relatively low in comparison to other GCRs and regions with large World Assembly Nations population, is a significant improvement on the 30% endorsement rate that The Church of Satan held in November of last year, representing 149 endorsements, and is an accomplishment in a region without ejection powers and where many puppets and inactive nations end up residing in.

With 213 endorsements and a 42% endorsement rate at the time of writing, we are positive that not only we can continue to improve in this field, but that we can translate this improvement into a safer, more active and more dynamic regional community.

The number of citizens has also reached an all-time high, with currently there being ninety-six citizens registered on TRR's forums. Despite TRR's relatively lax requirements needed to maintain citizenship, the Citizenship Council, the group of officials which is in charge of processing citizenship applications and removals, continues to be diligent in its work of maintaining an updated list of citizens and making sure all those in it fulfill the legal requirements. The Delegate has retired: Long live the Delegate

Frattastan plotting his return as TRR Delegate.

The Rejected Realms has held a Delegate election, leading to retiring Delegate Wabbitslayah being replaced by Frattastan. Proceedings kicked off with a challenge by Canton Empire against the seating Delegate Wabbitslayah. As rumours abounded that Wabbitslayah is unlikely to recontest, no fewer than nine candidates stepped up to challenge for the position in total, a record for TRR Delegate elections.

Spurred by the high number of candidates, the campaign was a vigorous and well-contested one, drawing much attention from both within and outside the region. Early frontrunner PowerPAOK/Nequedem/Glacikaldr was hampered by a dispute with Wabbitslayah regarding a supposed agreement regarding the timing of his challenge, having echoes of being TRR's own Granita Pact. The candidacy of prominent invader Souls was sufficient to bring NS Gameplay into overdrive, with various commentators opining that his candidacy is either the biggest danger or the best thing to happen to TRR in its existence.

The lack of a clear frontrunner led to a second round of candidacy declarations as Marilyn Manson Freaks, Wopruthien and Frattastan engaged the citizenry with their visions for the region. The various candidates were mostly differentiated by personality and experience rather than serious policy differences, and the outcome of the election appeared as uncertain as it ever was.

In the end, for the second time in as many elections, the final outcome was determined by one vote. A surprisingly strong showing by insurgent candidate Marilyn Manson Freaks was good enough to make this a tight contest throughout the voting period, leading to frantic googling about TRR's voting system and a 200% increase in the viewcount for Wikipedia's article on it. Manson and Frattastan had dominated the voting, but it was the latter who emerged victorious.

This is Frattastan's second stint as Delegate, the first being a highly successful term in 2013-14. His platform set out a detailed agenda for the region, particularly in the areas of Foreign Affairs and the World Assembly. Work is already underway to implement Frattastan's policy programme, with the hope of harnessing the activity and energy that the region is capable of when it works together. Written by Guy

Not Steering Clear of VD (Debates)

For a long time barely noticed by the citizenry, the Rejected Realms Vice-Delegacy became a recurrent topic in Assembly discussions this year, and even turned into a contentious a topic in the most recent Delegate election.

Originating in August 2011, when Sedgistan appointed three Vice-Delegates as endorsees who could back him up at a time when there multiple swappers threatening the delegacy (including the infamous Rejected Redeemer, whose identity was a source of controversy), the position had almost been forgotten, with no new appointments since 2015, and one of the original endorsees continuing to maintain it despite her decreasing activity.

In part this lack of institutionalisation occurred due to the uncertainty concerning the necessity and the purpose of a Vice-Delegate in a region without ejection powers, where maintaining high endorsement and influence level is not as vital as it would be in other feeders and sinkers.

This February, then-Delegate Catalyse proposed to add the Vice Delegate as a member of the government, but the discussion died down without any consensus on the proposed change.
Her successor wabbitslayah sought to do the same, "promoting" outgoing Officer Marilyn Manson Freaks to the position of Vice-Delegate, with concurrent cabinet access for the first time in TRR history, and envisioning him as a general advisor and aide to the head of government. This move should have been paired with legislation allowing for the Delegate to appoint new government members, in addition to the four elected ones that make up the Cabinet right now, but the relevant constitutional amendment failed to pass by a single vote, continuing to leave the Vice Delegate office in a legal limbo.
To add to the confusion, in a quick and somewhat confusing succession of events in the last days of his term, wabbitslayah fired Marilyn Manson, appointed former delegate The Church of Satan, and then reappointed Marilyn Manson.
In the most recent Delegate election campaign several candidates stated their views on the VD issue. Eventual winner Frattastan asked that the position should be codified and returned to its original limited role as backup endorsee or abolished altogether, with some voters showing uneasiness at the latter prospect.

Local anarchist icon The Grim Reaper, self-described "NS equivalent of like a CEO you call in to handle a corporate dissolution and then you fire them for incompetence with a beefy golden parachute" and "really good at this whole legislature thing", submitted an alternative proposal meant to establish Zyonn as the first person behind the Delegate in any order of precedence, and allowing her to take over the region at will, but this suggestion seems to have been largely ignored despite the increasing religious devotion towards 'Lady Zyonn'.

In typical Reject fashion it's expected that the issue will be talked to death until there's a consensus. If ever. Written by Frattastan

Less than Diplomatic

For the past several months, the Rejected Realms has been gripped in crisis. No fewer than 22 players have made and broken alliances, plotted schemes -- often behind their friends' backs -- and backstabbed each other when expedient. With the struggle for power as vicious and the stakes as high as ever, the question on everyone's minds has been "who will emerge on top?"

That's because TRR has been playing Diplomacy, a popular 1950s boardgame that is set in the run up to the Great War. Six games have already been played, following the formation of an official Diplomacy league within the region. Participants take control of one of seven European powers, with the goal of taking over the entire continent and being crowned the Diplomacy champion of TRR. Wopruthien has taken an early lead with one solo victory and one draw, and Souls is close on his heels in second.

Any player is free to join the league and become involved in the brutal games of Diplomacy. You also have ample opportunity to stab Frattastan in the back. Now who wouldn't want that?! Or if betraying Frattastan is not your cup of tea, maybe you can gain revenge on Souls for his NS transgressions. Invitation to TRR's CYOA Game: "Fallout Arizona"

War. War never changes. Even with the Old World rushing off to its doom, there are those who still safeguard the values, lessons, and convictions of America from the ruins of the atomic fallout. In the West, the values of democracy and the rule of law, and, in the East, the lesson to never repeat the same mistakes. The clash of the Bear, the New Californian Republic, and the Bull, Caesar’s Legion, was inevitable as their quests for glory consumes them. What remains by 2897 is a shell of both, as the NCR prepares to push back against the final holdouts of the new Caesar. First Sun City in the ruins of Phoenix, and then the final march to Flagstaff. A swift victory is promised by Mason Salvatore, one of the two possible candidates for presidency within the NCR’s upcoming election in the senate. All that stands in the way of the reborn crime family’s rise to power is candidate Aaron Hanlon, the nephew of retired Chief Hanlon of the NCR Rangers who is facing waning support. The NCR-Legion war has become a final opportunity for the many schemes of the Old World to take root. Will the conquest Arizona be what finally allows the NCR to remake America, or will the legacy of Caesar be one that forever changes the NCR’s very values? You enter Arizona as a Reject (not like this though, sadly), watching helplessly like the many other casualties of this war as the senate decides America’s future and the Legion does its best to make them pay dearly. Will you correct America’s path; or will you be its downfall? Or maybe you might just end up dying to an extra sneaky bark scorpion.

Ultimately, you decide, in the Rejected Realm’s Choose Your Own Adventure Game: “Fallout Arizona”! The polls will be made daily—or as regularly as I can remember and am able to make them—and will be open for the entirely of the interregional community, resident or otherwise (not that we would ever banject or eject you, or could for that matter, even if you did move in a puppet just to vote). So here’s where you come in: we’re inviting you to join in on our CYOA Game written by yours truly, Glacikaldr, or Nequaldraok if you’re looking for a portmanteau. The concept was first inspired by this YouTube video by ShoddyCast, but I could list many more that would be best to keep hidden: otherwise I’d ruin some of the many surprises I have instore for you!

So far we’ve just done a few parts within Chapter 1, and you can catch up on the setting, story, and previous options chosen, as well as the character sheet we’ve made through both gameside and offsite polls that we will be developing together throughout the process with almost every decision we make, through the dispatch following dispatch: here.

Further, if you’re looking for a better to stay updated on when a new poll is made, look no further than the new subscription service for the game! You can learn how to subscribe, for either RMB mentions or Discord pings, here. Thank you for joining us on this journey if you choose to do so, and we look forward to seeing as many of you over on our polls as able and willing! Written by Glacikaldr
