I liked it but I can see how it’s niche.

So maybe we should switch now; the next reading is Dead Stars:

Happy reading!

Well I read Dead Stars and I enjoyed it. I'm not sure if I have anything profound to discuss but it covers some ground on the way societal norms control our decisions among other things.

There are many ways to read it I suppose.
One thing to consider is that the setting of the story is during the time when the Philippines was newly colonized by the Americans, bought from Spain. I feel like this somehow plays a part in the choice between Esperanza and Julia. Probably also the title, "Dead Stars" can be interpreted in this historical context?

This leads to the realization that these are not just two women, these are two worlds, like Jack said, societal norms but what's the other, dreams or passion? Do we think passions are dead stars?

Most interestingly for me, though, would be the feminist traces. It might be a stretch, though I doubt it, to say that there are some feminist themes we can see here, mainly the lack of autonomy in both women, the helplessness, and the bleakness of a patriarchal society where nobody wins. Does anyone else see something like this?

I think it was a rather interesting exploration into what love is, and how fickle it can be
I can see where you're coming from on the lack of autonomy, especially in that Esperanza felt unable to challenge him

I think most have already read it, but if they haven't, it's a short read so they really should :)

Very interesting story. I'm not sure yet what comment I might give but I liked it. :)
