The Rejected Book Club
I’m thinking of putting up a “book” club but because we are busy pseudo-intellectual with very intellectual lives, it will instead be short stories (about 5 pages each, give or take).
It will be a nice experience and the bookmaster can either serve some term, which I can be for some time, or revolve for every assigned reading.
If at least 4-5 are interested, we can vote on a reading material (perhaps start with a light Tolstoy?) and then get it going. Do express your interest here!

If this gets me pinged on Discord whenever there's a new thing to read I'm down

Re: The Rejected Book Club
Still too pseudo-intellectual. We should have a movie club and watch movies instead, and let go off the shackles of pseudo-intellectualism.

I'd join a movie club. Not sure I have time to read a book. But if I've read it or want to read it i'll make time.

Did you read the OP, Wop? It's to read 5-page long short stories.
"I don't have time for that".

I'll choose a 1-page short story just for Wop. It'll be in Chinese though.

Re: The Rejected Book Club
Five pages is extremely short, which I feel kinda limits the narrative possibilities of the story (either it's a moral parable, or a narration that relies on a final twist that changes the entire perspective, since there's not enough time to pack a proper plot there).
I know that escapist literature isn't very pseudo-intellectual, but the first I thought about was The Outsider by H.P. Lovecraft.
"Let's read some impenetrable Kafka short story, instead."

Ok, maybe even five pages is too much for you.
Yay do it.

We should read Man and Technics by Oswald Spengler.

Will you read it / pretend to read it while commuting to look smart?

I like the idea of a book club. Never had the opportunity to talk about some Lovecraft with anyone.

Re: The Rejected Book Club
I was toying with shorts by Edgar Allan Poe, but Outsider by H.P. Lovecraft does sound like a good fit!
If people are fine with this I think we should go ahead with Lovecraft.

We'll leave Grim's anarchist literature suggestions for the next time.
This week we're reading Lovecraft's The Outsider. Not pseudo-intellectual but it'll do. :>

Well I've already learned one thing from the book club: Lovecraft is not for me.frattastan wrote: ↑15 Oct 2018, 20:27We'll leave Grim's anarchist literature suggestions for the next time.
