TRR writing contest - April

Hello lovely Rejects! If you're on the discord, you'll know me as Sarah.  I'm excited to announce a Short Story Contest! It's time to get creative and show off your writing skills! 


Rules and Information

• Short stories must follow this writing prompt: A Man who sees ghosts checks himself into a mental institution, oblivious to the fact that the facility has been closed for almost 30 years.
• Starting April 15th 2020 at 0730 est to April 22nd 2020 at 0730 est, submit ONE short story to Sarah in private.
• You can submit them by DM on discord (to Sarah Bread#7949), a message on the forums, or a TG to a leaf on the wind.
• All must be original.
• Stories cannot not contain hate speech of any kind that disparages others on the basis of their race, gender, sexuality, religion, country of origin or similar circumstances. 
• curse words are allowed, but no erotica please. 
• There is no word limit, but remember you want people to read it and have time to vote. So, don’t shoot yourself in the foot.
• If you submit more than one story, you will be disqualified.
• Voting will be on the forum after the submission period.
• Voting will be done on the forums so you must register on our off-site forums to vote.
• The winner will get a terrible custom made flag from me, and bragging rights!

There once was a man
Just a normal guy
Nothing of interest
Just a normal fry

But one day,
He started to see some things
Horrendous beings
with howls that ring

He was going crazy
His mind messed up so much
He was going lazy

So another day,
out of fear
He checked into a mental ward
That was closed for thirty years

He didn't know
of course
He was going insane
This poor man
was being destroyed
Those treacherous ghosts
to blame

So he went inside
and rang the bell
No one came
but those ghosts from hell

They tormented him
as he sat in a chair
and he took one last breath,
into the air

And so, the man went away
but his soul stayed
he rose up,
from the ground he came,
as a ghost
and flew another way

The Pestilence has reached the city. London has been besieged, and those who gain the vile Mortality drop dead in a time less than that of a week. Around me I see the bodies of those fallen, friend or foe, and I understand the graveness of it. The vision has become unbearable. Even now, I resort myself towards the Priory of Saint Mary, for treatment. The madness is more unbearable than the Pestilence itself, and I would consider it a mercy to suffer the fate of those afflicted. Remediation is not an option. Even as I turned myself into the hospital on this day of Ides, I know it shall be the last thing I ever do. The place is overrun with the sickly. Ghoulish figures roam the halls. I can tell they have the Death, and I am oddly at peace with it. I too will join the ghouls. It is inevitable. Better to lose my bodily self than my state of mind. This is the end. Even as I sit up, writing for nobody to come, unable to sleep as a result of my delirium, I see them. I see the dead fill my room. It brings me great peace to know that I too shall fill the room of another. I mourn silently for those lost, and I grieve for the far greater tragedy of those who still live. I mourn for those in the hospital. I mourn for myself. Perhaps my sanity has been gone since before the Plague. It is yet to be known.

A Man who sees ghosts checks himself into a mental institution, oblivious to the fact that the facility has been closed for almost 30 years. The cracked walls resembling a huge river system were common sight there. The ground filled with an old papers of hundreds color variations of yellow, the moist air nearly blocked Devins nostrils, which blocked oxygen and pumping heart moved the blood filled with dark filth all around the body. The haunting figures watched as Devin desperatly tried to blow his nose, making the ones pleasant autumn-like environment again cursed by humans presents, even when the man leaves.
We are not subjects of nature, we know what mysteries are--simple mind tricks, feared by our ancestors,but a joke for us. If you ask a man, what's fear, he'll tell you "war", "poverty", "starvation". However, we forgot why feared the night, why we kept the flame burning in a middle of darkness, why we rain the soil with Holy water. Those beings are not real, but also real, just as Devins fear of suffocate due to moist air."The walls are watching, the rivers on them are made of blood...",- the broken mind shouts. The evil creatures stalking their prey, waiting for it to end its pointless existence, laughter echoing through corridors.
Devin wasn't the braviest man, which is expected considering recent 6 number to his age, but willful indeed. He needs to find doctor in this place or else nothing will safe him from them. Firstly, he wears bloody cross, stolen from killed priest, and for every step he prays, and for every 10th step he spits on a ground, as the Old Lady told him. Doorways were another problem--some of them were without doors, and Devin knew, that he can't disturb others privacy. On the other hand, oak doors resembled his old house, which he burned and wasn't bothered to do it again, not mentioning setting fire to a place of help. Door by door, and still there were no signs of a doctor, only rubble and broken furniture. "Must've been a lunchbrake",- thought Devin, opening another door.
Finally, 777 cabinet was the right one. Here he was, the bald man in his 30es, writing and scrumbling one paper after another. When he saw Devin, he simply pointed out to a sofa, or what is left of it.
After laying on it, his eyes were filling with tears, as he shouted and begged for help, told how the ghosts were watching him at nights, how he was forced to kill priest Banra, the lost property and so on and on. Then doctor spoke up:"I see. Unfortunately for you, my time for today is over. Come here the next week and we will discuss your problem".
Doctor got up, took his hat and was heading towards the door, but in the doorway he stopped--his card fallen out. On the sofa the man tried to see, what's written on the card...In a second, his faced become paled. "Devin Yoksmen-doctor of psychology "
