The Sovereign State of Noberea

Recent History

Modern Noberea's foundations can be traced back to the revolution of 1899 and the civil war and power struggles that followed, which ended with the removal of the then reigning Borus imperial family and the overthrow of the autocratic regime and it's eventual replacement by the Dragomir family as the imperial dynasty and their imposition of a new authoritarian regime. The revolution of 1899 launched the country into a civil war that only ended ten years later in 1909, though civil strife and political turmoil continued, without the revolution accomplishing anything of what had endeavoured to accomplish, only managing to replace an autocratic government with another autocratic government.

The noberean revolution took place on the 12th of March 1899. As noberean peasants and urban workers marched on the streets of Bolarus, in protest of their living and working conditions, the imperial sovereign, fearing that the march was an attempt to storm the imperial residence and oust him, ordered that the palace guard should disperse the crowd before it reach the imperial palace, leading to the massacre of hundreds of civilians. The bloodbath was followed by the immediate call for the abdication of the sovereign and political reform as to adress the country's issues, however these requests were answered by further repression, with mass arrests conducted by the authorities.

When soldiers refused to continue enacting the government's brutal repression the military command declared that any soldier refusing to follow orders would meet summary execution. This only served to heighten tensions and on the 27th of March 1899 several units througout the country mutinied, freeing political prisioners and declaring their loyalty to the revolutionary government that was to be formed. While catastrophe was averted in Bolarus when Colonel Avyix Dragomir was able to peacefully quell the mutiny of the local garrison, thereby saving the imperial family from capture, and was duly rewarded by being appointed general.

When the war between the loyalists and revolutionaries ended in 1909 with the signing of the Kasperyii peace accords over a million and a half nobereans had died, the country was in shambles and the imperial family had fleed the country at a time when the capital was likely to fall. In addition to the revolutionaries, the loyalists had also fought nationalists in terriories like Antivia which became independent after the war. Avyix Dragomir, who during the war ascended further the chain of command as the war continued until he had become the Supreme Commander of All Noberean Forces, a title conferred to him by the imperial sovereign himself and which not only afforded him command of all the country's military but also virtual control over the whole country in the sovereign's absence.

By the war's end the reigning imperial sovereign had died after fleeing the country, leaving Noberea efectively without a monarch. While at first the deceased sovereign's children had refused to return due to the war they eventually came to demand that the Avyix Dragomir relinquish all his power and allow the heir of the Borus imperial dynasty to take the throne. Meeting the refusal of Dragomir, who declared himself Supreme Leader and Regent of Noberea in 1911, the imperial family continue in exile out of fear that if they returned they would be arrested or killed. Just a year later, in 1912, Avyix Dragomir had himself declared imperial sovereign of Noberea, thereby commencing a new imperial dynasty in the country. Since then both his brother and grand-nephew have governed with the titles of both Supreme Leader and Imperial Soverign of Noberea.
