How a RL annoyance lead me to join The Rejected Realms

Post by Ryno »

So I got called upon to do Jury duty in August of this year. Fun times for me as one might expect. It also payed 20 bucks a day!

Of course when things like this come up in ones life it's always a good idea to show up on time your first day. Which I didn't. I was late by about an hour.

Good news though as they let me reschedule for September 16th. They even let me pick the date! Of course if I was late this time I would be in deep crap. Of course if you don't show up at all they can have you arrested and thus you will have to have a fun time in jail.

Anyway online in the world of Nationstates I was semi-active. I had kept my nations alive for some time and posted a bit on the FRA forums. So some of you people who are active in the FRA may have noticed that one day I was questioning someone about something and the next I wasn't posting at all. I wasn't posting a ton over there so it's possible you didn't notice, but anyways that was because I either stopped going on Nationstates/NS forums a couple days before or the day before. I don't remember which, but if it was days before it was because I was enjoying my last days of freedom.

So my Nationstates activity was almost nil. I just logged on like once during/after jury duty to keep my nations alive.

So I go into Jury duty and finish it. Lots to do when sitting around doing nothing I couldn't be doing at home minus the awesome pay of 20 bucks a day. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end. So I go home and get back to doing my usual stuff and getting busy with some new stuff. With the one thing I didn't do being getting back to the usual activity on Nationstates.

So I log in to all my nations in NS on November 1st or late October 31st. I find I missed Z day stuff on NS. Then I log on to my nation called Ryno. I quickly realize it's in The Rejected Realms. WTF! Apparently I was ejected and banned after an invasion. Of course not during the invasion, but after by a good bit for not being active. I also found out that I wouldn't be able to get back in the region due to a few annoying reasons. Where I am from being one of them.

So I was sitting in The Rejected Realms and was thinking about where to put this nation of mine. When I thought that it might be best just to stay where I was kicked too. I joked to myself a few times in the past about doing so. This time I did.

Now just think if I wasn't late to jury duty the first time or not called upon to do jury duty at all I probably wouldn't have been inactive during the invasion and thus wouldn't have been ejected. I would then have picked some other region to join this nation to. Maybe just stuck it in AFA. Instead I am here because of jury duty.

BTW has anyone else here been though jury duty?

I know I haven't typed much about what happened during jury duty in the above, but I tried to keep things as short as possible. Hopefully I didn't leave out a major detail. As I know I have left out quite a few smaller ones.

So, you joined TRR because of an unusual coincidence of real life and NS events? (invasion, Z-Day, jury duty).
Nice!

Not eligible for jury duty (or, actually, its equivalent) in my country, so nope.

Age requirements (30 years old is the minimum).

No, it's not because of criminal convictions. >_>

Yeah.

Well you're not missing much.

You only have to be 18 and registered to vote here. The Good news is I won't have to do it again for the next two years.

Sure.

I remember there being a cute girl (early 20s) on the jury with me, but then I learned she had a child . . . :/

That sucks. That's like them saying they need you and then saying thanks for coming, but we didn't need you.

It's weird isn't it? Almost makes RL sound real or something. I guess it's like getting a sign in a dream.

I've been on jury duty twice. Last Sept I was on a jury for two weeks.

Though we only get paid $5 a day plus 5 cents a mile for gas.

Though employers have to still pay a regular 40 hour paycheck a week, minus whatever you made at jury duty.

No loss money wise then.

I'm not a register voter (I sat in lines every day for 14 years of my life, I deserve a break) so I'm not eligible for jury duty.

Wow. You posted in an old thread to point out that you found the topic boring? Or am I missing something?
