Tugs vs Salty's Lighthouse

Post by Spartan Termopylae »

In the late 1980s, kids in the UK could watch a short-lived programme called Tugs, which was essentially Thomas the Tank Engine, but with boats instead of trains. It sadly ended after 13 episodes. It was also broadcast in Australia, Ireland, Singapore, Germany, Brunei, Portugal and Japan, although I'm unaware of how it may have been changed for these markets.

In the late 90s, kids in the states got something called Salty's Lighthouse, an animation with segments taken from Tugs. These were obviously dubbed over. But the stories and characters were changed so much that beyond the models, the was absolutely nothing similar between the two programmes.

Does anyone remember either of these programmes? I spent a couple of nights after work this week watching Tugs for the first time in many years. I still found it enjoyable at the age of 32 😂
