On Europeia distributing restricted information from TRR's Assembly

On Europeia distributing restricted information from TRR's Assembly
On June 9, The Rejected Realms became aware of a leak from its citizens-only forum. The leaked post by MadJack conveyed his negative impression of Europeia in a discussion about Europeia’s request to accede to the Aegis Accords. The post was received by Europeia’s then-President, Rand, without the sanction of TRR’s government. Europeia’s President failed to inform TRR of the leak and instead approached The North Pacific’s government to enquire whether MadJack’s opinions were shared in an official capacity by The North Pacific.

We approached Europeian officials Rand and Writinglegend, in private, to voice our requests: that Europeia apologize, and that it provide to us the identity of the leaker. Believing this to be a simple matter, but nonetheless one that requires a speedy resolution due to the security risk to TRR, we requested Europeia confirm its position within 24 hours. Europeia provided no substantive response in the group chat, and a day later, without prior notice, brought the matter for discussion in the Aegis Accords’ server.

Throughout our engagement in this matter, TRR maintained two basic requests of Europeia:
  • Europeia issue an apology to TRR and its citizens, for failing to disclose the leak to TRR, and disseminating it further; and
  • Europeia provide all information it has about the leak.
In its final communication to us Europeia said that the above requests were unacceptable, because:
  • Europeia maintains no wrongdoing had occurred on its part. Instead, it offered to voice regret for putting TRR in a difficult situation and asked if this was acceptable to us.
  • Europeia claims it cannot cooperate further to provide information about the leak, as doing so would contravene its treaty obligations to another region.
Europeia’s position is that it refuses to acknowledge it had done anything wrong by possessing and passing on a leak from TRR without our knowledge, and that it will not provide us the necessary information to identify the source of the leak. Europeia’s position shows a callous disregard for the security of TRR. Despite supposedly regretting the situation it caused, Europeia insists that it had a right to use the information as it sees fit, and pledges to inform us about future leaks only to the extent that doing so is compatible with its laws and treaties.

Europeia claims it indirectly received the leaked post from “a citizen of an allied region”, and that it cannot reveal the name of the region because of its treaty obligations to that region. This came as a surprise to TRR. The third-party region in question, which remains undisclosed, has allegedly refused to authorize Europeia to provide information about the leak to us. While this claim cannot be explored further since details have been obscured, TRR is extremely concerned that a third party region is the source of the leak, and Europeia is protecting its identity. Further, the lack of information about the region prevents us from evaluating our diplomatic relations with it, and from evaluating how harmful this situation is to our security.

TRR is a proud defender region and we saw Europeia joining Aegis as a positive development and looked forward to welcoming Europeia as our friend and ally. Our basic position is that an ally should recognise that holding and disseminating our confidential information is wrong, and an ally should provide full assistance to identify the leaker of the confidential information. We believe that this is a sensible view that would be held by any region that finds itself in our position.

We believe further action is required to bring this matter to a just outcome that restores our confidence in Europeia's commitment to our alliance.
Formerly former things.
