The Forbidden City, earlier today.
Chairman Funkadelia took to his podium in the Forbidden City earlier today to tell Lazarenes that he intended to resign on October 21, 2014. October 21 is, of course, the first anniversary of the People's Republic of Lazarus and in many ways an appropriate day for renewal and change. A leadership change like no other change can "re-charge" the batteries, so to speak, for a revolutionary regime.
We spoke briefly with the Chairman at the time of his announcement.
"Change is central to the Revolution." says Funkadelia. "I just feel that the time has come to allow someone else to take the office of Chairman. I have done what I can and need to do for the region, and now it is the time for someone else to carry on that legacy. The time is appropriate simply because I feel that it is. I think I have reached the upper limits of my ability to advance Lazarus further as Chairman."
Funkadelia's announcement reflected on his administration's many successes, including the 2014 Regional Sovereignty Conference and the peaceful settlement of the Osiran-Lazarene War. However, the announcement also reflected on something new: a third points doctrine. Funkadelia's "three points doctrine" stipulates that the Chairman shall always be chosen by the people - reminding others that Lazarus is ultimately, a revolution for the people and by the people. The other two stipulations are even more interesting: unless under extraordinary circumstances, only three Chairman shall serve every year between October 21, 2014 -- ensuring that, first, that every year in the future of the People's Republic shall feature three more new Chairman (similar to its first year: Milograd, Kazmr and Funkadelia) but likewise, there is now a "fixed" term limit for every future leader.
Until October 21, of course, Funkadelia will continue as Chairman. His era has been defined as one of considerable growth - the decisions of past Chairmen to invite independentist powers to the newly formed Lazarus meant a ticking "time bomb" awaited him and his administration when the interests of those elites would reach an impasse with Lazarus. Handling the situation admirably, even after every set-back ... Hobbes's adminship ... threats to 'neutralize' LLA ... The East Pacific's recent closure of treaties, regardless, Lazarus under the direction of Funkadelia remained resolute and consistent.
He took the position of Chairman as 'the radical', whose heated dedication to the anti-imperialist cause was seen by voters as necessary to stir the revolutionary sentiments in Lazarus, but he would later announce his impending resignation today, a different man. The peacemaker, tired but successful in seeing Lazarus through one of its most difficult and challenging eras.
