Resignation from the Citizenship Council

Post by Guy »

I thought writing this post would be easier than it is.

As I'd alluded to in the last confirmation proceedings, I've decided that now is the right time for me to step down from service in the Citizenship Council. The reasoning for doing so is rather simple: I'm finding that my ability to spend sufficient efforts on it is becoming more precarious.

My experience on the Council has overwhelmingly been a positive one. I'd like to thank all Councillors I've served with for their dedication to the role and willingness to work together as a body. It's not a high-profile job, but it's an important one nonetheless. Whether it's the routine applicant whose background is unclear and that we try to decipher or the more complicated cases, you've always done your job diligently.

Most importantly, I'd like to thank the region for your confidence in me and the Council generally as we undertook this role.

This isn't a decision that I've made lightly: I think that a significant advantage of our system has been the relatively stable membership of the Council. Now is hopefully the right time to pass on the torch to someone else.

We've tinkered a bit with the Council in the past, particularly around re-confirmations and majority thresholds. One thing that has been really clear throughout my service in the Council is how indispensible an admin presence on it is. Hopefully frattastan and Catalyse will continue undertaking admin checks, but at some point the Assembly should formally address this issue.

Finally, I still anticipate being around as usual, so no teary goodbyes please. :P

I nominate The Grim Reaper as Guy's replacement on the Citizenship Council.

While not one of the region's 'ancients', TGR has proven himself to be a solid debater and a critical thinker during his time (~2 years) in TRR and I trust his judgement ability a lot. In addition, while he's enlisted in the RRA he is largely a roleplayer and isn't affiliated to any other gameplay power: I consider this a guarantee of trust and neutrality.
In this world there are two kinds of people: those with loaded guns and those who dig. I dig.

I accept the nomination, and wish Guy good luck in all his future endeavours, if indeed he has any.

Goodbye, Guy. Despite being new around here, I have definitely seen the positive impact you’ve had on things around here. You will be missed. Good luck with your future endeavors.

EDIT: And congratulations, The Grim Reaper, for his newfound nomination onto CitCo!

Sad to see Guy step out of this role, but I think Grim will be a good replacement
